Education: Must possess a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine
Experience: Must possess a valid State of Florida license to practice veterinary medicine and have at least one year of experience in a veterinary clinic or animal shelter.
Skills: Must be personable, able to communicate with and direct staff and work as a member of a team. Must be able to life 50 pounds on a regular basis.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- DVM Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree
- Has and maintains a Valid and Current State of Florida Veterinarian License
- Computer skills required: Internet Software; (Outlook); and Shelter Luv software (or similar software).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to walk, climb stairs and ladders, run, stoop, bend, stand, push, pull, move and carry heavy objects.
- Standing for long periods.
- Work in a fast paced and busy environment
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Examines animal to determine nature of disease or injury.
- Independent judgment to recommend the best option for an animal and the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
- Evaluate new approaches to problem solving, and assess changing facts or conditions.
- Requires regular contact with internal and external customers involving considerable tact, discretion and persuasion in obtaining the cooperation of others.
- Calls for a well-developed sense of timing, strategy and may involve detailed explanation and interpretation of policies, rules and regulations.
- Ability to boost morale, encourage engagement and professional development with team members.
- Leverage evidence-based medicine and continue pursuit of education to deliver quality patient care.
- Adopt and positively impact new veterinary standards and guidelines
- Treats animal surgically or medically.
- Will be responsible for examining all animals brought to the shelter to determine acceptance of sterilization and preforming the surgical procedures for sterilization.
- Will be responsible for establishing, implementing, to prevent the introduction of potential infectious diseases and for setting up control measures should a contagious problem occur within the shelter.
- Responsible for maintaining a surgical suite for the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB).
- Interacts with volunteers.
- Tests animals for diseases.
- Inoculates animals against rabies, and other disorders.
- Conducts research on how to control parasites that attack domestic animals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
- Required to have the ability to deal with acute illness and trauma and be able to coordinate a team to determine the best treatment plan.
