What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Protection Officer position at Humane Society of Scott County?
Broad Function: Responds to animal calls, complaints, cases of abuse/neglect for the government bodies we contract animal control services with. Participates in safe and effective sheltering of these animals.
Specific Duties:
- Work closely with Police Departments and Health Departments. Work with veterinarians, court systems, prosecutors, general public and other shelter staff.
-Answer animal control dispatch calls and dispatch field officers appropriately. Completes computerized call logs.
- Complete bite reports, impound dangerous animals when necessary, and handle bite follow up duties.
- Assist local police, fire, health, and sheriff departments with animal related calls
- Respond to wild animal calls when a case of injury or abandonment has occurred
- Clean and maintain animal control vehicles
- Complete and turn in daily field activity report
- Pick up and impound animals and complete paperwork
- Instruct animal owners on lawful care of their animals per state and federal law
- Transport animals to and from veterinarians as needed, emergencies included.
- Issue citations or notice of violation to enforce local ordinances
- Appear in court hearings as required
- Maintain files for city licenses, intakes, bites, warnings, citations and abatements.
- Assist the general public to maintain safety
- Clean, feed and water animals as needed - Assist on holidays and after hour calls as needed
- Be willing and able to acquire general knowledge relating to animal behavior, health and tempermant
- Other dutes as assigned
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $12.00 - $13.00 per hour
