Position Overview :
The Director of Wellness is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing practices to ensure that safe, efficient, and effective nursing care is delivered in alignment with the standards set by the facility, state and federal regulations, and OSHA guidelines. This position involves fostering an environment that encourages nursing staff participation in decision-making and ensures the delivery of quality care to residents.
Key Responsibilities :
- Policy Development and Implementation : Assist in creating and implementing policies that prioritize resident care, enhance nursing practices, and support the recruitment and retention of qualified nursing staff.
- Care Standards : Establish and enforce standards to ensure the delivery of safe and therapeutically effective nursing care.
- Nursing Team Coordination : Facilitate, direct, and coordinate the activities of nursing personnel involved in resident care decision-making.
- Performance Evaluation and Development : Participate in evaluating nursing staff performance, identifying areas for professional growth, and providing guidance and counseling.
- Staffing and Scheduling : Collaborate with the Administrator to develop a staffing plan that ensures optimal care delivery while effectively utilizing nursing department personnel.
- Interdisciplinary Care Coordination : Work with physicians and other healthcare professionals to address patient needs and monitor the effectiveness of care plans.
- Health Care Plan Oversight : Oversee the service plan process and ensure the development of temporary healthcare plans, incorporating appropriate treatment measures.
- Documentation and Compliance : Ensure accurate and timely documentation of nursing care in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.
- Resident Transfers : Oversee the safe transfer of residents due to changes in their condition.
- Policy Interpretation and Enforcement : Communicate and interpret facility policies and procedures to staff, residents, and families, ensuring compliance.
- Quality of Life Maintenance : Ensure the provision of a safe, supportive environment that promotes the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual well-being of residents.
- Professional Development : Participate in ongoing educational activities to maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills.
- Meeting Attendance : Attend key meetings, such as Morning Report, Environment of Care Safety Committee, and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) meetings, as well as any other required committees or teams.
- Performance Improvement : Actively participate in performance improvement initiatives and complete required reports.
- Regulatory Compliance : Ensure that nursing practices align with current state and federal regulations and assist in facility surveys as needed.
- Family and Resident Education : Provide necessary education to residents and families, documenting all interactions to ensure effective communication and understanding.
- Incident Investigations : Investigate and resolve reports of alleged abuse, resident / family complaints, and grievances in accordance with facility policies.
- Staff Management : Ensure the department is properly staffed, including recruitment, hiring, training, and providing disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Orientation and Competency Evaluation : Oversee the orientation and competency evaluation process for all new nursing staff, ensuring they are adequately trained to perform their duties.
