What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overnight Shelter Coordinator position at Hundred Nights, Inc?
This position reports to: Shelter Manager
Employee Status: Non-exempt hourly position Part-time (30 hours/week - three 10-hour shifts) or Full-time (40 hours/week - four 10-hour shifts)
General scheduled hours will be overnights 10:15 pm to 8:15 am.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Overnight Shelter Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the safety and comfort of the overnight shelter guests. This person is responsible for overseeing one of the two resident floors, ensuring any situation is immediately addressed, and maintaining accurate reporting records for the covered shift to communicate with management and day-shift employees. The Overnight Shelter Coordinator is expected to remain awake for the full overnight shift in order to be available for immediate needs or emergencies.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist guests with overnight needs:
- Ensure access to personal belongings kept in lobby lockers, when necessary
- Access to over-the-counter medication as needed by guests
- Provide additional blankets or towels or personal care items as requested from Hundred Nights stored items
- Be awake and available to assist guests with questions or concerns about their stay
- Wake guests and ensure everyone is out for morning check-out
- Supervise morning activities and ensure rules and policies are followed
- Monitor security cameras for anything out of the ordinary
- As the first staff member guests encounter each morning, be personable and learn guest names to set the tone for the day
2. Maintain records for shelter reporting
- Complete daily shelter log detailing shift
- Notate issues from guests or maintenance concerns
- Support data-entry into database for grant reporting purposes as requested
3. Maintain clean and safe environment inside shelter
- Disinfect high-trafficked surfaces in common areas
- Sweep or wet-mop hallways and common areas
- Provide guidance for guest cleaning, including providing access to cleaning supplies as needed
- Walk through shelter every 30 minutes to ensure safety
- Be alert and vigilant to possible issues or safety concerns

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Desire to make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors during this time of uncertainty and beyond
- High level of empathy and understanding for people experiencing homelessness and presenting with multiple and urgent case management needs, substance use, health, and/or mental health concerns
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic work environment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work as a team member with minimal supervision
- Solid written and oral communication skills, as well as excellent phone manner
- Ability to confidently and calmly handle any emergencies or mitigate/diffuse any situations that may arise with guests or volunteers during your shift
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Nonprofit, working 3rd shift, customer service, shelter or security work experience or volunteering and community service experience a plus but not required
- Experience with database management a plus
- Interest in and commitment to Hundred Nights mission
The position entails interaction and communication with staff, guests and occasionally members of the community. The position requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
