Description
A Project Manager at Hunter Communications is responsible for owning the successful planning, execution, completion, and closeout of telecommunications construction and deployment projects. This position works in collaboration with the operations and engineering teams, construction crews, and various other internal and external stakeholders. This role requires a high degree of problem-solving skills, critical thinking, attention to detail and the ability to recognize potential problems and proactively develop solutions.
End-to-End Project Ownership
- Oversee all phases of multiple telecommunications projects, from inception through completion, ensuring timely delivery and budget adherence.
- Develop detailed project plans, monitor financials, update internal tracking systems, and provide regular updates on progress and budget status.
- Ensure comprehensive project documentation is maintained and distribute close-out materials to relevant parties promptly.
Communication, Collaboration, and Problem-Solving
- Work closely with internal and external teams to facilitate seamless project execution.
- Act as the primary liaison for all project stakeholders, maintaining regular and effective communications.
- Lead regular meetings to discuss project status, address issues, and adjust plans to maintain project timelines and budgets.
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks to project timelines, budgets, and quality; collaborate with stakeholders to resolve challenges and adapt to unforeseen project obstacles and changes.
- Manage vendor relationships, contract negotiations, and oversee contractual compliance and performance.
Compliance, Quality Assurance, and Continuous Improvement
- Ensure project activities comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and legal requirements.
- Implement and oversee quality control processes to ensure project deliverables meet required standards and specifications.

Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Advanced professional verbal and written communications skills.
Experience:
- 2 or more years of fiber optic construction project management experience.
- 2 or more years of experience gathering, analyzing, and presenting data.
Skills & Abilities:
- Commitment to Safety: Possession of a valid driver's license, capable of passing an MVR check and adhering to laws and Hunter driving policies. Strong attention to safe working practices.
- Telecommunications Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of fiber optic network construction and deployment, including PON, FTTx, and Multi-Dwelling/Tenant Unit projects, utilizing both aerial and underground construction.
- Joint Use Navigation: Proven experience moving projects through the joint use process, including pole attachment agreement negotiation and conflict resolution between stakeholders such as pole owners and other attachers.
- Proactive Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems using critical thinking and best practices. Forward-thinking, identifying risks and proactively addressing them before they become problems.
- Leadership and Communication: Strong capabilities in leading teams, managing stakeholders, and fostering collaboration. Ability to engage effectively with all levels of stakeholders and build positive relationships.
- Organization: Strong ability to organize and file project documentation, communications, and contracts; consistently provide accurate and timely updates.
- Self-Direction and Priority Management: Ability to work autonomously, set priorities, manage time, and advance objectives without direct oversight. Skill in managing multiple projects, with the agility to reprioritize as needs evolve.
- Financial Management: Understanding of budgeting, financial forecasting, and resource management.
- Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of industry regulations, safety standards, and legal requirements pertinent to telecommunications projects, particularly on Tribal lands.
- Technical Documentation Analysis: Competence in interpreting land surveys, construction plans, splicing schematics, and as-built drawings.
- Digital Literacy: Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Workplace, Google Earth, and GIS platforms.
- Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Openness to new technologies and methodologies, with a commitment to ongoing professional growth.
Preferred Qualifications (if applicable)
- 2 or more years of fiber optic design, engineering, installation, or construction experience.
- 3-5 or more years of fiber optic inside and outside plant construction project management experience.
- Documented experience managing outside plant fiber construction projects on Tribal lands.

- Constantly working indoors in a climate-controlled office environment.
- Occasionally working outdoors in all weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, dampness, and smoke.
- Occasionally required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including high-visibility vest, hard hat, long pants, and closed-toed shoes while performing field work.
- Occasionally exposed to moderate to loud noise levels from traffic, equipment, and other sources.
- Occasionally working in proximity to moving vehicles, construction equipment, and pedestrians.
- Occasionally working in proximity to hazardous plant and animal life.
- Occasionally working outdoors during low-light times of day.
This is a full-time, salary exempt position with a typical 40-hour work week occurring between Monday and Friday from 8:00AM to 5:00PM. This position occasionally requires overtime to meet project deadlines or infrastructure emergencies.
This position may occasionally require travel within the Hunter Communications network footprint of Oregon and Northern California as dictated by business needs, with overnight stays as required by circumstances.
