About This Role:

The Screw Machinist sets up, maintains, and troubleshoots both multi-spindle and single spindle screw machines to produce precision metal components. May also perform maintenance on industrial machines and apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, layouts, control plans, and machining procedures.

Essential Job Functions/Tasks:

  • Independently, sets up and operates multi-spindle and single spindle screw machines. Ensures set-up is to specification on machine to product various types of parts. Installs and adjusts specific tooling as needed. Tests the set up by observing and inspecting first run and sample work piece to ensure machine conforms to specifications.
  • Measures, examines, and tests completed components to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as gauges.
  • Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs. Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tools.  Dismantle machines or equipment, using hand tools and power tools, to examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed.
  • Performs appropriate maintenance on industrial machines regularly, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. Cleans and lubricates machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, chips, stains, and foreign matter.
  • Performs Statistical Process Control (SPC) checks per specification and acts in accordance with output. Tracks and records results.
  • Trains and assists operators with machining operation, techniques and quality and productivity as required.
  • Implements and suggests waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the function and department such as recycling opportunities and elimination of paper waste.
  • Attends all training provided and adheres to all procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures always.
  • Brings any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.
  • Seeks opportunities to improve performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results.
  • Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Assists in the training of trainees and/or entry level operators as and when needed.

Education/Training Required and Preferred:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.

Experience Required and Preferred:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
  • Working experience in manufacturing environment.

What You Bring:

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and use shop and measuring tools.
  • Advance knowledge of multi-spindle and single-spindle machinery and procedures, preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and the ability to comprehend work instructions.          
  • Must have technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods including flow, layout, assembly, and production equipment.  Understanding of machines and tools, including their uses and maintenance.
  • Ability to work within a team environment and demonstrate professional behavior.
  • Must be reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfilling obligations.             
  • Must be able to work on varying shifts as needed although regularly scheduled on 1st shift.            
  • Excellent attention to detail in completing work tasks.                              
  • Has experience in CNC programing and proficient using Pro-E.  Ability to perform data entry, view electronic procedures, or pass training courses.   
  • Has initiative and willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges.                                               
  • Ability through either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes (not including computers or vehicles).                     
  • Ability to conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.        
  • Experience and use of Shop Mathematics.                                    
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and detail oriented. Must be able to accurately perform intermediate mathematical and statistical calculations and use a weight counting scale.                                            
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills preferred.

The hourly rate for this opportunity ranges from $33.65 to $42.64

The Company complies with all federal/local/state regulations in regard to pay. The above represents the expected hourly range for this job requisition. Compensation offered to the successful candidate will be determined by qualifications, prior experience, other job-related factors, and geographic location.
