SUMMARY:
Run an efficient and profitable service department through productive staffing, customer retention, cost controls, achievement of objectives, and maintenance of all service records. Ensure that the daily inventory of technician's time is consistently sold to service customers.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid Driver's License required; must meet company insurability standards
- Commercial Driver’s License required; must meet company insurability standards
ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Forecasts goals and objectives for the department and strives to meet them.
- Review and analyze technician performance results and provides leadership and guidance when applicable.
- Creates and uses specific plans and programs designed to meet sales revenues and net profit goals, as established in the yearly business plan.
- Hire, train, motivate, counsel, and monitor the performance of all service department staff.
- Prepares and administers an annual operating budget for the service department.
- Maintains reporting systems required by general management.
- Monitor and control the performance of the department using appropriate reports, tracking systems, and surveys.
- Analyze and provide leadership in the area of market potential and penetration for all Service Department capabilities.
- Understand, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect service operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Accounts for all documents; ensures that none are missing and all are processed correctly.
- Facilitate and/or conduct technical training and sends employees to appropriate training schools as needed.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers to encourage repeat and referral business.
- Inform repair technicians of time allowances on each repair order.
- Maintain high-quality service repairs and minimizes comebacks. Conduct periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality.
- Ensure the proper care, storage, and inventory of special tools.
- Ensure that customers' service files are up-to-date and readily available for reference.
- Establishes and maintains 24-hour follow-up with all customers to confirm satisfaction with the service experience.
- Comply with mandatory maintenance of 22% of open repair orders (work in process).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department; also directly supervises 8-15 non-supervisory employees.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
