Job Goal

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Contributes to the overall advancement of the school district’s special education program and the experience of special education and gifted students through continuous improvement of psychological diagnosis methods.
- Monitors and provides the administration of intelligence, aptitude, achievement, and other psychological tests and assessments to students referred for possible eligibility into the special education program.
- Ensures district compliance with testing and process guidelines mandated by federal and state requirements and regulations for the pre-referral, special education, and gifted education processes.
- Provides and interprets both verbal and written test results to teachers and other district personnel for the purpose of identifying eligible students, recommending appropriate placement, and facilitating the goals of Individual Education Programs (IEP).
- Researches the selection and administration of appropriate psychological tests for referred or re-evaluated students in accordance with the Alabama Administrative Code (AAC) timelines in determining eligibility or continued eligibility for special education and gifted education services.
- Collaborates with teachers and other faculty to identify and develop appropriate strategies for integration into the school district’s curriculum and teaching plans to effectively meet students’ needs.
- Collects and maintains proper documentation (i.e., student files, various records, confidential data, etc.) for the purpose of recording activities, providing reliable information, and identifying progress with identified goals.
- Responds to a wide variety of inquiries from staff, school personnel, professional organizations, and others for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information, and/or referring to appropriate personnel.
- Communicates effectively with teachers, parents, HCS staff, and other professionals as appropriate to share test data findings, make observations, manage referrals, maintain timelines, etc.
- Maintains a current inventory of protocols, forms, and assessment kits and places orders to re-stock as appropriate and approved.
- Keeps abreast of relevant trends and developments in testing through research and continuous education, determines their appropriateness for inclusion in the district’s initiatives, and makes recommendations as requested.
- Participates in a variety of approved trainings and activities to address professional learning needs, including in-service programs, seminars, conferences, workshops, etc.
- Adheres to and communicates administrative procedures, local Board policies, and applicable state and federal rules and regulations as pertaining to special education and gifted program evaluation guidelines, resources, and materials.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Must maintain a state teaching certificate endorsed in Psychometry.
Physical Requirements
Requires light work exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. Job involves sitting most of the time.
Terms of Employment
Nine month year. Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
