Job Description
Job Title: Middle School Band Director (Grades 6-8)
Reports To: Principal
Contracted Days: 190
Job Summary: To supervise and coordinate the instrumental music program for middle school students, fostering a love for music and promoting the development of musical skills, self-esteem, and teamwork through rehearsals, performances, and educational experiences.
Essential Duties:
- Plan, rehearse, and direct musical performances for school events, community functions, and out-of-school opportunities such as concerts, festivals, and competitions.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and staff to promote participation in the band program and keep all stakeholders informed of schedules, expectations, and performances.
- Collaborate with school administration to provide music for assemblies, graduation ceremonies, and civic events.
- Supervise students during all band-related activities, ensuring their safety and promoting a positive learning environment.
- Maintain accurate records such as attendance, eligibility, and rosters, providing necessary reports to school administration.
- Manage the maintenance, storage, and distribution of school-owned instruments and equipment, including scheduling repairs and ordering supplies as needed.
- Prepare and submit the band program’s budget annually and follow district procedures for purchasing materials and supplies.
- Stay current on instructional methods, new music, and equipment to enhance the band program and participate in professional development opportunities.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages students to develop their musical skills, teamwork, discipline, and confidence through participation in the band.
- Uphold district policies and ensure that all band-related activities align with the school’s mission and values.

Qualifications:
- Valid teaching license for the grade level and subject area assigned.
- Meets requirements for Arkansas Qualified Teacher designation, if applicable to the teaching assignment.
