POSITION TYPE: Seasonal
WAGE RANGE: DOE $14.00 and up
SUPERVISORY: No SUPERVISED BY: Snowsports Supervisors, Manager & Director
POSITION SUMMARY: Lead, instruct, and supervise guests in proper, safe skiing techniques.
This position requires a post- job offer Background Check.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTONS: Instruct all ages of skiers in a variety of changing lesson types on each scheduled day. Reports daily on activities and duties. Expected to participate in on-the-job training throughout the ski season to expand knowledge on instruction and mountain services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: May complete paperwork for up to 1 hour per day; will stand/walk/ski for up to 7.5 hours per day. Breaks and lunch available between lessons scheduled. May lift up to 35 lbs. frequently; up to 100 lbs. occasionally. Lifts may be done to pick up fallen skiers, and may provide support to help skiers from falling. Will bend, squat, kneel, climb, twist, and reach above shoulder level on an occasional to frequent basis. May use hands for grasping, pulling up skiers and fine manipulation. Sensory skills of speech, vision, touch and hearing needed. Worksite is 90% outside and 10% inside. Exposed to all temperatures and moisture conditions. Hazards are snow/ice and ski injury. Avalanche is also a possible hazard. Wears company provided uniform.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Must have extensive knowledge of Schweitzer’s facilities and activities. Responsibilities are listed as guidelines and the position is not necessarily limited to these items. Qualified individuals may also instruct freeride/freestyle technique.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
SKILLS: Ability to ski most terrain at Schweitzer.
EDUCATION: Instructor certification preferred; English reading, writing and communication.
EXPERIENCE: Prior sports coaching preferred but not required.
LICENSE NEEDED: PSIA/USSA certification preferred but not required.
MACHINES OR TOOLS OPERATED: Ski equipment
REVIEW SCHEDULE: This position and the person filling it will be evaluated once a season.
