Supervisor: Alpine/Snowboard Supervisor(s), Discovery Club Supervisor, Assistant Director, Director
Department: Ski and Snowboard School
Position Summary: Provide group and individual Instruction when needed. Assist other departments when needed. Be a good will ambassador on and off the hill and should conduct his/her person accordingly. He/She will maintain a professional attitude and appearance to reflect 49° North Mountain Resort and the Ski and Snowboard School in a positive and professional manner.

- Respond To: Guests, Alpine/Snowboard Supervisor(s), Discovery Club Supervisor, Director, Assistant Director
- Employees Supervised: Candidate Instructor
- Inter-Relationship: Work closely with Candidate Instructor, Supervisor and Assistant Director to better serve our guests.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide customer with any information that will help insure their safe participation in skiing/riding at 49° North.
- Teach lessons and/or lead clinic groups on assigned days or upon request by supervisors.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of current trends in ATS/STS, teaching/learning principles, equipment understanding, and methods for education in skillful, safe and fun skiing/riding.
- Promote 49° North Mountain Resort and safe skiing/riding.
- Assist the Ski Patrol in rescue operations in the event of avalanche, lost skiers, chair lift failure, and ski accidents when requested.
- Assist in run grooming, ie. ski/boot packing, clearing of windfall, teaching area set up and take down, etc.
- Maintain cleanliness/care of snowsports school facilities, resort property, and company equipment.
- Be able to describe runs by name and give directions to their locations.
- Maintain up to date and accurate lesson records and other information as needed.
- Additional duties may be assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Certification: Prior teaching experience at 49° North or other ski area, or successful completion of new hire clinics. Attendance of 49° North Ski and Snowboard School pre-season hiring clinics.
- Experience: Possess good verbal communications skills, possess skiing ability of advanced intermediate or better.
- Other Requirements: Ability to maintain a professional appearance and attitude and to be prompt and on time. Willingness to voluntarily participate in educational clinics to improve personal skiing/riding skills and understanding of the fundamental skills. Ability to develop a thorough understanding of ski area policies and procedures. Must attend the minimum amount of training days as set forth by the Ski and Snowboard School. Attend all scheduled morning meetings on assigned work days, and check in with Supervisors when at the resort on non-assigned days. Maintain an acceptable degree of physical fitness and health. Thorough understanding of “Your Responsibility Code” and “Smart Style”. Willingness to pass a background check to be able to work with children/youth.
Environmental Factor:
- Frequent lifting of items weighing 40 Lbs. or more
- May encounter severe weather while performing duties
- Sitting, standing, walking and/or skiing/riding for extended periods of time.
