Description
The Simulation Educator is a College of Health and Pharmacy (COHP) member, working with a team of Simulation Educators and Technicians in Husson's Simulation Education Center (SEC). Simulation has become an essential tool to facilitate teaching and learning. Through simulation-based training and education, people are able to learn from past experiences and refine their techniques to enhance their future performance. The healthcare industry, in particular, has relied heavily on simulation to train learners in dealing with complex problems, behaviors, and actions and to enhance their critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills. Careful planning is required to provide realistic case scenarios that align with the learning objectives to ensure successful learning outcomes.
Examples of Duties
- Assists in integrating simulation-based educational activities into the COHP curricula and specific disciplines.
- Assists faculty in developing simulation scenarios for teaching and formative assessment of learners following known scenario development tools.
- Participates in revising and developing labs and sim cases for teaching and assessment with standardized patients and simulators.
- Program scenarios for programmed high-fidelity simulation and tested to ensure educational goals and needs are met.
- Runs high-fidelity manikin and standardized patient simulation sessions, including simultaneous, multi-manikin, and multi-station-task training.
- Assists with teaching and debriefing of simulation sessions using the SEC debriefing model.
- Assists faculty in designing labs using center equipment and supplies to meet learning objectives.
- Assists with teaching in labs using different modalities such as mid- and low-fidelity manikins and task trainers.
- Identifies opportunities for improvement, innovation and development of initiatives to integrate simulation in clinical education and curriculum.
- Maintains knowledge of operating and programming various simulation technologies, including HRT, Pyxis / Sim-Serve Machines, anatomical models, task trainers, and high-fidelity AI-based and non-AI-based manikins.
- Maintains knowledge of recording platforms, for example, CAE Learning Space, and the policies accompanying it.
- Ability to always adhere to the SEC's best practices and standard operating procedures.
- Facilitates training sessions for faculty, fellows, and staff as needed.
- Supports and promotes simulation use across university departments.
- Provides demonstrations to all prospective groups and visitors.
- Provides attention to detail and ability to follow the SEC operation cycle.
- Ensures the learner experiences a safe practice while being in the SEC spaces.
