Larry Flynt’s HUSTLER Casino is a luxurious facility with Monte Carlo-style décor, located in the city of Gardena. The facility matches the plushest Las Vegas casinos, offering full-service cuisine and attentive service that compares to the finest hotels. The 55,000-square foot, $50 million facility is open 24 hours a day; 365 days a year specializing in classic card games, with more than 80 tables ranging from Black Jack and Texas Hold’em to California Games such as Pai Gow Poker, Baccarat, Pai Gow Tiles and more. It has long been home to the largest seed progressive poker jackpots in the State of California.
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the casino, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and safeguarding the financial integrity of the organization. The role involves managing accounting functions, preparing financial reports, developing budgets, and providing strategic financial insights to support the Casino’s overall business objectives.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals in accordance with regulations, company goals and GAAP.
- Manages the financial operations of the organization, to include the development and administration of capital and operating budgets and expenditures, and the establishment and management of financial accounting control systems.
- Leads the control of expenses and accountability for budgeted or projected promotional initiatives.
- Reviews and analyzes month end General Leger reconciliation and documentation.
- Reviews daily financial and departmental reports, addressing potential conflicts and/or misinformation.
- Produces financial statement analysis reports of trends and budget variances.
- Ensures compliance with bank notes and other debt instruments.
- Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient and safe operation of all Accounting department areas.
- Ensures accounting processes financial reports are in compliance with GAAP.
- Meets and communicates with Department Managers and Directors in order to provide support, reports, and general assistant in regards to their financials.
- Partners with the overall Chief Financial Officer in the formulation, compilation, and presentation of budgets and setting of accounting policy.
- Partners with the Chief Financial Officer in financial and regulatory audits.
- Ensures compliance with Federal and State reporting requirements.
- Interacts with Internal/External Auditors as well as gaming regulators.
- Responsible for maintaining an appropriate internal control environment around the financial reporting and close process.
- Analyze revenue and expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budget levels, and ensure expenditure control.
- Participates in monthly financial statement review, quarterly write-off meetings, and internal control updates. Establishes a system of trouble shooting financial problems to ensure cost effectiveness throughout the property.
- Oversees the supervision of accounting staff which includes hiring, work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
- Performs additional duties as assigned and necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting or other relevant field; CPA preferred.
- Substantial experience in managing timely accounting closes, financial reporting, audits, budgeting and forecasting.
- Ability to plan, implement, and administer financial information and control systems.
- Highly computer proficient, including advanced capabilities with Excel and an understanding of ERP systems.
- Seasoned leadership skills and ability to manage, train and develop managers and staff in a respectful and effective manner.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Able to manage competing priorities with accuracy and efficiency.
