What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Advisor for Departments 3 and 4 (ADM3225) position at Hutchinson Community College?
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions –
- Provide academic advising services to students who have declared a major in academic departments 3 and 4 Department 3 (Fine Arts & Humanities) and Department 4 (Natural Science, Social Science, & Mathematics), particularly Elementary Education.
- Communicate with representatives from other colleges on topics related to transfer.
- In cooperation with Student Success Center staff, develop and coordinate career advising, orientation, and student engagement activities.
- Maintain articulation documents using computerized delivery systems.
- Implement retention procedures including a variety of intervention activities.
- Utilize multiple contact management delivery systems (e.g. virtual, text, call, chat, face to face, email, or other) and document student communications accordingly.
- Maintain resource materials related to advising.
- Assess students and potential students utilizing college adopted assessment tools.
- Participate actively on institutional committees.
- Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.
- Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
- Recruit students for Departments 3 and 4 as needed.
- Attend Department 3 and 4 staff meetings.
Secondary –
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Advising and Career Development in collaboration with department chairs from Departments 3 and 4
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Academic advising or related experience preferred.
- The ability to work with students with diverse needs. This person must also be able to work effectively with faculty and staff.
- Computer literacy, including spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software, is preferred.
- Physical requirements: Excellent verbal, written and listening skills; Must have the ability to sit for stand or extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer, and to operate additional office equipment; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; understand words and respond effectively and appropriately; attentive to detail, accurately follow written and verbal instructions, work independently, sedentary/indoor work environment

SALARY and STATUS:
Salary is commensurate with qualifications as determined by HutchCC administration. This full-time administrative staff position is 12-months annual, benefit eligible, at-will, and exempt.
