The CI (Continuous Improvement) Specialist will lead Hutchinson Industries, Inc. (HII) improvement processes related to HES program (Hutchinson Excellence & Sustainability) to ensure compliance with Hutchinson maturity matrix. The primary objective of the CI Specialist is to work proactively with managers and employees to establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of continuous improvement and improve the maturity of the plant.
Specific Duties
- Provides HES guidance, advice, and direction to all staff members while maintaining a visible presence in the workplace and developing working relationships with all managers and employees.
- Willing to be an agent of change. Effectively communicate with a broad range of personnel on the benefits of change.
- Works with the Hutchinson Defense & Mobility HES Manager to develop and implement Hutchinson Group HES initiatives.
- Manages a comprehensive planning process and leads HES efforts for new and existing processes.
- Performs HES compliance audits/assessments of facility and departments.
- Works with the management team to ensure that all key HES operational controls are in place and that HES action items are resolved on a timely basis.
- Creates and maintains documentation for the benefit of training and sustainment.
- Leads the 6S program to ensure optimal plant organization.
- Train staff on the benefits of 6S and work with them to apply 6S in their work areas (plant and office) and to improve the quality of the 6S auditing.
- Develops best practice documentation to share with the rest of the Hutchinson organization and delivers.
- Participates in M3 workshops to improve work areas.
- Implements practical solutions and drives changes in manufacturing processes/systems that reduce muda (waste).
Qualifications
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Good communication skills and ability to listen to and communicate with people on the benefits of change.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc…)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in manufacturing is preferred.
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing methodologies with a focus on 6S.
Physical Demands

- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop—a large degree of lifting (moderate to heavyweight), bending, squatting, and maneuvering. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for viewing a computer terminal, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception vision for moving objects, and the ability to adjust focus.
- This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
- The ability to work with chemicals in the proper environment and while wearing PPE.
Personal Protective Equipment
The following list of PPE is required while in the manufacturing area:
- Safety Glasses conforming to ANSI Z87.1 or higher
- Steel Toe Safety Shoes conforming to OSHA General Industry Standards 29 CFR 1910
- Hearing protection conforming to OSHA General Industry Standards 29 CFR 1910
- The ability to wear a dust mask conforming to OSHA General Industry Standards 39 CFR 1910.134
- Additional PPE may be required depending on the department
