HRPN Clinic Float

Hutchinson, KS Full Time
POSTED ON 4/25/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/24/2025
The Full-Time Clinic Float Nurse is a critical role within HRPN, providing essential staffing
flexibility across multiple clinics. As HRPN continues to grow with increased patient volume and
expanded service offerings, this position will support Primary Care, Skin and Wound,
Hematology/Oncology, Pulmonary, and Pulmonology clinics. The float nurse will provide
coverage in these specialized areas during periods of staff absenteeism (vacations, sick leave,
maternity leave, etc.) and will help reduce the strain on permanent clinic staff, ensure seamless
patient care, and contribute to maintaining high levels of patient satisfaction and quality.
The Full-Time Clinic Float Nurse will be trained to work across the different specialties, ensuring
consistent, high-quality care regardless of the clinic’s current staffing situation. This role will not
only improve patient care but will also reduce staff burnout, increase retention, and provide
opportunities for professional development.
1. Patient Care Assessment:
  • Perform comprehensive physical assessments, including taking vital signs and collecting relevant patient data, across the following clinic settings: Primary Care, Skin and Wound, Hematology/Oncology, Pulmonary, and Pulmonology.
  • Administer medications as ordered, monitor for side effects, and adjust care as necessary based on clinic protocols.
  • Provide wound care and manage dressing changes, ensuring the proper treatment and tracking of wound healing progress in the Skin and Wound clinic.
2. Patient Education:
  • Provide education on patient diagnoses, treatment plans, and self-care strategies that are tailored to each clinic’s specialty (e.g., chronic disease management for Pulmonary patients or oncology education for Hematology/Oncology patients).
  • Offer guidance on managing chronic conditions and preventive care specific to the specialty of each clinic.
3. Documentation & EMR:
  • Accurately document all patient information in Athena and Cerner EMR systems, including assessments, interventions, medications, and follow-up care instructions.
  • Maintain clinic documentation standards across multiple specialties to ensure continuity of care and accuracy.
4. Collaboration with Healthcare Providers:
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver seamless and high-quality patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with teams across specialties, ensuring that the patient’s care plan is coordinated and executed efficiently.
5. Emergency Response & Clinic Protocols:
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to urgent or emergent situations as required by clinic protocols, ensuring the safety of patients.
  • Adapt quickly to each clinic’s unique protocols and workflows, including those specific to Primary Care, Pulmonary, Skin and Wound, Hematology/Oncology, and Pulmonology.
  • Flexibility & Adaptation to Clinic Needs:
  • Provide coverage for multiple clinics within the HRPN network, ensuring flexible and timely staffing when gaps occur due to vacation, sick leave, or other staff absences.
  • Adjust quickly to the specific needs and workflows of different clinics and specialties, providing consistent care regardless of the location or specialty focus.
7. Reducing Burnout & Increasing Staff Retention:
  • Support existing clinical teams by providing relief during peak periods, reducing stress and burnout among permanent staff.
  • Help retain clinical staff by ensuring workloads remain balanced and patient care remains consistent, even during periods of absenteeism.
Qualifications:
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) with an active Kansas nursing license.
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience in an outpatient, clinic, or hospital setting.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to various clinic environments and workflows across multiple specialties (Primary Care, Skin and Wound, Hematology/Oncology, Pulmonary, and Pulmonology).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Knowledge in chronic disease management and providing patient education, especially in the specialties mentioned.
  • Proficient in using Athena and Cerner for patient documentation and charting. Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in a float nurse or similar role.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems, specifically Athena and Cerner.
  • Experience working in specialty settings, such as Pulmonary, Oncology, or Wound Care.
