SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE:
The Materials Manager oversees yard crew upholding the highest HSE standards of excellence in the scrap yard and finished goods areas. This position requires the ability to effectively interface with all levels of plant personnel and will be responsible for the coordination of all logistics activities from raw materials purchase to delivery of finished goods while promoting and maintaining a culture in which safety is the overriding value in all logistic activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise the logistics staff
Communicate, monitor, enforce company policies
Organize and conduct training
Manage work schedules and PTO
Supervise and monitor employee work performance & housekeeping
Establish yearly planning for logistics operations including trailer needs and raw material levels.
Oversee day-to-day transportation needs
Determine and communicate daily shipping schedule
Project and communicate weekly shipping schedule
Coordinate shipping requirements w/incoming scrap loads, monitor closely relacquering scrap deliveries and needs
Ensure sufficient sampling of incoming scrap loads
Communicate regularly with customers, vendors, transportation company & plant personnel as needed
Assign daily FG loading schedule
Manage trailer fleet of over 60 open-top, flatbed, stake and combo trailers
Inventory/equipment tracking
Equipment assignments to loads and personnel
Maintenance requirements and historical tracking
Regulatory compliance such as inspection and registration
Set and monitor pre-trip inspection program
Ensure safe logistics operations at plant and guarantee load securing of the outgoing trucks
Oversee day-to-day shipping & receiving data entry
Posting shipments
Receiving scrap/prime
Error research, clearing
Conduct monthly FG, alloy and scrap inventory counts

Coordination with production planning and production to ensure that
delivery dates to customers are met
production and logistics are aligned on charge packages
indoor scrap storage levels are sufficient for production levels, also at weekends
Own and run weekly sales meeting input and presentation
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Minimum 5 years of work experience in materials management role
Develop strong understanding of Hydro Processes and Systems
Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment with tight timelines
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Proficiency with APICS and SAP systems
Ability to execute and deliver within required guidelines
Strong influencing leadership skills
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Undergraduate degree in related field; 5 years of experience in material management with progressive organization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Excellent communication and interaction skills
Previous exempt level supervisory experience or equivalent preferred
Solid understanding of PCs and ability to learn general network applications
Problem solving skills essential to resolving customer service issues
High energy level, the ability to handle several urgent tasks at once and manage time effectively
Ability to lead others with a positive attitude through periods of change
Expertise with SAP or the ability to develop such expertise quickly
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Direct reports to include Yard Operators, production planner and shipping and receiving clerk
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a heavy industrial environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Role may also require operating mobile equipment such as forklifts, payloaders and yard trucks.

POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time position on site. Days and hours of work may vary but mostly Monday through Friday, 8am – 5pm. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand supporting operation.
TRAVEL:
Travel is less than 25% (i.e. visits to other Hydro plants or corporate office for meetings and/or training).
