Our Team
Electrified Propulsion Development (ePD) division (previously Powertrain) is one of the largest engineering divisions at HATCI. ePD specializes in electrified propulsion components / system level testing and development as well as ICE / (P)HEV / EV vehicle performance development (energy efficiency, range, charging, etc.) for Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis products sold in North America.
The Position
HATCI is currently seeking a Power Electronics System Development Group Manager within our Electrified Propulsion System Development Team (ePSD) at our Superior Township, MI facility (near Ann Arbor). ePSD is an Engineering Department within ePD which was recently established to undertake projects related to electrified propulsion system component test and development. This is a key leadership role responsible for driving excellence in engineering project execution, fostering collaboration, and achieving strategic goals. This position reports to the Senior Manager of ePSD.
Core Responsibilities
- Test, evaluation, and development of power electronics system components such as electric motors, inverters, converters, and charge modules.
- Create and maintain power electronics component and system level development and reliability testing standards, procedures, and specifications; ensure proper documentation and communication of test results.
- Development of new electrified propulsion system architecture concepts through simulation, dyno testing, and on-road evaluations.
- Leverage AI / ML techniques to optimize electrified propulsion system architecture, component selection, and calibration.
- Development or identification of new technologies, strategies, and methods for improving the energy efficiency, range, and performance of current and future Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis electrified vehicles.
- Benchmark competitor electrified vehicles for cost, performance, efficiency and quality. Use benchmark data to drive internal development direction and performance target setting.
- Lead quality issue tracking, root cause investigation and resolution for power electronics components in electrified vehicles, both before and after start-of-production.
- Provide power electronics engineering technical support for North American assembly plants.
- Lead fundamental research activities with external partners including national labs, universities, and tech suppliers.
- Manage direct reports, including task assignment, employee professional development and evaluation.
- Develop and execute technical training plans to grow engineering capability of team members.
- Understand and follow department's business model, strategic direction, purpose, and mission and continually communicate them with direct reports.
- Set up section's goals and objectives aligned with department's direction, and drive execution, engagement, and results to accomplish them.
- Develop and manage section's plan, strategy, and budget allocation & usage.
- Work with the Director and Senior Manager to participate in department's resource planning, goal setting, and technology road map creation.
- Facilitate inter-team collaboration and knowledge sharing through transparent communication.
- Produce and deliver executive level presentations on key project milestones / achievements and provide actionable insights and recommendations for product improvements.
- Travel both domestically and internationally as required
