JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
AIRPORT DIVISION
MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of Parish airport. Work involves maintaining airport infrastructure, facilities, and grounds. Reports to the Operations and Maintenance Supervisor.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs daily airport security responsibilities.
Locks gates and doors.
Performs equipment checks.
Performs airfield inspections.
Maintains Airport buildings.
Performs cleaning activities including but not limited to transferring waste materials for disposal.
Maintains general knowledge of heating ventilation and air conditioning systems.
Performs medium heavy work.
Monitors ATC and emergency service frequencies so that the Airport Manager or his designated representative can be notified in the event of an Airport emergency.
Performs necessary inspections; checks to secure landside facilities.
Performs manual labor for extended periods of time in adverse weather.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including advisory circular and equipment manuals.
Refers to advisory circular, equipment manuals, policy and procedure manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.
Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as tractor, bush hog, backhoe, dump truck, sweeper, vac truck, forklift, etc.
Uses a variety of tools such as hand tools, mechanic tools, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as poison for grass, cleaning supplies, chemicals for seaway, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Operations and Maintenance Supervisor, Airport Board, Air Logistics, Pelican Aviation, Aver Exteriors, and the general public.

Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by two to three years of experience in the electrical or HVAC trades or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Must have a valid Louisiana driver’s license.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED
TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including mechanics tools, carpenters tools, electrical tools, plumbing tools, etc. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 150 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to climb, reach, crawl, bend, stoop, etc. in the performance of job duties. Physical demand requirements are those for Medium Work to Heavy Work.

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress.
Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.)
PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Knowledge of Job: Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures, and policies of the Maintenance Department of the Airport Division as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Maintenance Technician. Has thorough knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Has knowledge of the procedures, materials, and equipment related to carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical trades. Has knowledge of the operating characteristics of assigned equipment. Has knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved in the work. Has knowledge of the maintenance requirements of assigned equipment. Is skilled in the use and care of a variety of hand and power tools necessary to perform plumbing, masonry, carpentry, mechanical, and electrical work. Is able to understand work specifications. Is able to operate the more common types of machine shop equipment. Is able to perform heavy work carrying building materials as required by work assignments. Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Is able to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Is able to perform required mathematical calculations with accuracy. Is able to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
Quality of Work: Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities. Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility. Maintains high quality communication and interacts with all Parish departments and divisions, co‑ workers and the general public.
