What are the responsibilities and job description for the Russian Language Instructor - Post DLPT Training - Monterey, CA position at ICA Language Services?
ICA is currently seeking an experienced Russian language instructor to teach adult professionals in an in-person setting at DLIFLC in Monterey, CA. The candidates should have at least two years of work experience teaching the target language to adult students on an intensive basis (4-8 hours a day).
Job Details:
- Expected period of performance: 2/17/2025 (or ASAP) – 4/25/2025
- Training days: M–F
- Number of students: 2 - 4 student groups
- Preferred schedule: 7:45 am - 4:45 pm (6 hours of teaching 2 hours of preparation)
- Local instructors (from the Monterey, CA area) are preferred
Duties:
- Plan and conduct target language classes using a variety of teaching techniques and approaches, to develop students listening, reading, and speaking skills;
- Administer weekly quizzes and assessments, and conduct other informal or formal evaluations of students learning progress;
- Provide monthly written reports of the students' progress to the supervisor and jointly develop plans to address any potential issues;
- Maximize the use of instructional technology and online learning resources into teaching to support independent learning;
- Adjust teaching techniques and approaches to the student's individual learning styles and professional needs;
- Propose and participate in beyond-the-classroom cultural activities in the school and in the DC metro area, such as visits to foreign embassies, cultural centers, restaurants, and shopping areas where native speakers live, to promote cultural learning.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Native or near-native level speaker of Russian, ILR Level 3 or higher
- BA or higher degree in Second Language Acquisition, Linguistics, ESL, or a related field
- At least 2 years of experience teaching in an intensive (4-6 hours per day) training program, teaching adults using proficiency-oriented methods and materials
- Experience in developing or conducting proficiency testing is a plus
- Experience using technology in the classroom is highly desired
