Purpose

· Secure safe and compliant maintenance operations to deliver reliable equipment functionality and facility integrity.

· Manage maintenance activities within the Itasca and Thorndale facility, including preventative and reactive maintenance, equipment repairs, and facility upkeep, while adhering to safety, health, and environmental (SHE) standards.

· Collaborate with operations and other departments to ensure seamless production support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

The organization and job position

· Stahl is a multinational company that provides an extensive range of chemical products and services for treating leather and for coating flexible materials.

· The Front Line Maintenance Technician will report to the Site and Operations Manager and will be an integral part of the operations team.

· Maintain effective communication with operations, production, and other relevant teams to ensure alignment and business support.

· The maintenance technician provides support for a 2 shift operation.

Dimensions

· Responsible for maintaining a 75,000 square foot chemical manufacturing facility and a 30,000 square foot distribution center.

· Supports a 2 shift operation.

· Supports all plant equipment and facilities requirements.

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand on a firm surface for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity is required. The employee might need to frequently lift and/or move a full drum of material.

Major tasks/responsibilities

1. Management of Maintenance Activities:

  • Execute maintenance tasks in alignment with safety standards, proactively promoting a "safety first" culture.
  • Assure safe operations and working conditions for all maintenance activities, compliant with relevant legislation and company standards.
  • Perform basic mechanical tasks, including but not limited to, pump repair/replacement, valve maintenance, and equipment adjustments.
  • Perform basic plumbing tasks, including pipe repairs, leak detection, and fixture maintenance.
  • Perform basic electrical tasks, including light switch/outlet replacement, basic wiring repairs, and troubleshooting simple electrical circuits (non-licensed).
  • Ensure high equipment reliability and functionality to support production quality and service levels.
  • Assist in the introduction of new equipment and processes in collaboration with operations and engineering.
  • Contribute to the management of the maintenance budget.
  • Supervise maintenance tasks, including stocking of tools, equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, and facility upkeep.
  • Utilize resources efficiently and optimize processes to achieve maintenance KPIs.
  • Develop and implement a preventative maintenance (PM) program to ensure long term equipment reliability.
  • Manage the asset base by adequate maintenance, and sustained reliable performance within agreed budgets.
  • Ensure state of the art technical/technological adequacy of the plant for existing and new equipment.
  • Interface with outside contractors.

2. Maintenance Planning and Execution:

  • Ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks to support production schedules.
  • Control maintenance costs within approved budgets.
  • Realize continuous improvement based on operational excellence principles to reduce maintenance costs and improve efficiency.
  • Proactively resolve equipment and facility issues arising from maintenance activities.
  • Provide maintenance support across both shifts as needed, which may require flexibility in work hours.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and emergencies during off-shift hours as required.
  • Knowledge of SAP and comfortable with using computer systems to place purchase orders and track maintenance requests.

3. Investments, Projects, and Compliance:

  • Identify and implement improvement projects to enhance maintenance efficiency and facility reliability.
  • Assist in the execution of maintenance-related projects.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety and environmental regulations.

4. People and Communication:

  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Maintain effective communication with operations, production, and other relevant teams.
  • Help obtain quotes, and help manage contractors.

Profile

Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices and procedures in a manufacturing environment, preferably chemical manufacturing.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in maintenance, preferably in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Experience in managing maintenance tasks and coordinating with contractors.
  • Broad understanding of maintenance principles and their impact on operations.
  • Effective analytical capability to troubleshoot equipment and facility issues.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety protocols.

Skills

  • Proactive problem-solving skills and ability to take timely decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Flexibility to work across two shifts.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $75,000.00 per year
