The Ida Lewis Yacht Club, in Newport, RI, seeks a highly motivated individual for a seasonal position as Food & Beverage Coordinator.
The Ida Lewis Yacht Club (Club) is a private club open to members from mid-May to early October. The Club serves dinner 4 nights per week (5:00-10:00pm) and brunch on Sundays (10am-2pm) for approximately 100-150 people for each service from mid-June through mid-September.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is organized, preferably knowledgeable of the Food & Beverage industry, and is flexible and willing to work evenings and weekends to deliver quality food and beverage offerings to Club Members throughout the season. The ideal candidate understands the importance of organization to the flow of an event, able to maintain the POS system and work with the chef to create and print weekly menus. The candidate will also be willing to fill in when/where needed in the Front of House, kitchen, and bar.
Major responsibilities include (but are not limited to) maintaining the POS system, training of new staff, organization of procedures ensuring a smooth flow for every event. The Food and Beverage Coordinator is also in charge of daily inventory of food and items needed for grill nights and assist the Chef and Bartenders for all food & beverage ordering, inventory and maintaining quality control.
Duties
General
- Serves as organizer of all aspects of food service and bar operations. This includes maintaining and updating items in the POS system, printing menus, checking all inventory for kitchen and bar.
- Assist the General Manager by maintaining the daily/weekly schedules of all kitchen and bar staff.
- During Grill nights and Brunch, inputting all the members orders into the POS system correctly for kitchen staff to ensure order is delivered correctly.
- Inventories food and beverage items regularly and re-orders proactively.
- Consistently assures that the kitchen and bar operate in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Assist the General Manager with carrying out maintenance of kitchen and bar’s physical assets and facilities.
Financial
- Works with the General Manager to make sure all aspects of the kitchen and bar are within budget. Works with the Bookkeeper/Office Manager to monitor budgets and other food and bar-related invoices before payment.
- Establishes and monitors compliance with purchasing policies and procedures; reviews and updates the General Manager on purchasing procedures and requirements for food and bar-related items.
Quality Control
- Properly manages all aspects of the Club’s food and beverage service to ensure and maintain the quality of products and services provided by the Club. Proactively seeks methods to increase quality and member satisfaction.
- In conjunction with the General Manager and Entertainment Chair, continually monitor the food and beverage operation and make recommendations for enhancing the dining experience and taking measures to increase profits and clubhouse utilization.
Personnel Management
- Assist the General Manager leading efforts to continuously improve staff quality and skills.
- Works cooperatively with the General Manager to schedule and direct the work of all employees.
- The Food & Beverage Coordinator will lead by example with a hands-on approach with a hospitable, friendly and can-do attitude when engaging with staff, members/guests, and outside parties.
