Job Overview

Join the Idaho Conservation Corps (ICC) as a Youth Corps Camping (YCC) Crew Leader, where you will co-lead and supervise conservation crews comprising youth aged 16-18 throughout the summer months. This seasonal role involves managing two distinct groups across the term of service while engaging in meaningful conservation projects on both public and private lands. You will facilitate educational lessons utilizing an accredited outdoor education curriculum, making a profound impact on the lives of young individuals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-manage and direct all aspects of crew activities, ensuring effective teamwork and adherence to project guidelines.
  • Oversee the physical and emotional safety of participants, prioritizing their well-being in all program activities.
  • Complete various conservation-oriented projects to high standards in collaboration with the crew.
  • Offer guidance and instruction, emphasizing safe work practices and optimal productivity.
  • Implement daily educational lessons based on NYC’s curriculum that encompasses environmental education, life skills, and job readiness.
  • Track the progress and participation of crew members throughout the program, providing valuable feedback for their development.

Required Skills

  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 70 pounds and work collaboratively in a physically demanding setting.
  • A sense of humor, adventurous spirit, and commitment to making a positive environmental impact.
  • Experience with or willingness to work with diverse populations.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Current Wilderness First Aid or higher and CPR certification is required.
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past three years.
  • Recreational or professional outdoor experience, demonstrating the ability to adapt to living conditions without modern conveniences.

Compensation And Benefits

  • Compensation for completing the 10-12 day staff training is $250.
  • Daily pay of \(98, or \)100 for individuals holding a Wilderness First Responder certification.
  • Leaders receive paid time off every other weekend and 5-6 days during the mid-summer break, with estimated earnings totaling approximately $6,860 for the term.
