Key Responsibilities
- Assist in managing and supervising conservation crews of nine youth, aged 16-18, throughout the summer season.
- Participate in the completion of various hands-on conservation-oriented projects on public and private lands.
- Facilitate daily lessons using NYC’s accredited outdoor education curriculum to promote both environmental education and life skills.
- Collaborate with Crew Leaders to maintain crew discipline, resolve conflicts, and foster positive morale among crew members.
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all participants, prioritizing risk management and safety protocols at all times.
- Transport crew members and equipment safely to work sites, often traveling long distances.
- Strong leadership and mentorship abilities.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sound judgment and decision-making capabilities.
- Willingness to work collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
- Physical capability to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past three years.
- Relevant recreational or professional outdoor experience.
- Experience or desire to work with diverse populations.

- Living allowance of $4,050 for the summer.
- AmeriCorps Education Award of $3,097.50.
- Days off every other weekend and 5-6 days off during the mid-summer break.
