Title: Law Enforcement Risk Manager

Position Summary
The Law Enforcement Risk Manager plays a pivotal role in reducing the frequency and severity of law enforcement claims through the application of risk management practices. These practices involve identifying and evaluating law enforcement liability exposures and providing members with risk mitigation guidance and resources including consultation, training, as well as model forms, policies, and practices.
Primary Functions/Major Assignments
· Through regular claim review, develop root cause analysis of law enforcement liability claims.
· Using root cause in combination with claim trend analysis, develop and maintain a portfolio of relevant risk mitigation trainings, as well as criteria for risk assessment questionnaires.
· Using risk assessment questionnaires, regularly review law enforcement agency detention and patrol operations to evaluate liability exposures and provide agency with risk mitigation recommendations.
· Regularly provide members with in-person and online training in an engaging and interactive style.
· Develop and maintain model policies, forms and resources to aid members’ risk mitigation efforts.
· Efficiently and effectively document training, consultations, and risk assessments in Origami, RMIS system.
· Develop positive relations and trust with members.
· Attend member conferences and meetings.
· Work on special projects as assigned.
Secondary Functions

Specific Job Abilities
· Possess excellent computer skills including peripheral equipment such as a projector.
· Recognize risk exposures and initiate mitigation efforts.
· Research and interpret laws and administrative rulings.
· Strong interpersonal skills to include ability to communicate well, work cooperatively, and resolve conflict.
· Communicate complex topics to diverse audiences with varying levels of understanding and knowledge.
· Develop and present compelling written, oral and visual presentations.
· Organize, plan and prioritize workload involving multiple projects at once.
· Think creatively and strategically as well as provide solutions.
· Work and travel with a high level of independence and self-initiative.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, or closely related field.
· Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement.
· Idaho POST Instructor Certification.
· Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint).
· Have a current driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
· Significant knowledge of Federal and State laws related to law enforcement operations and legal liability.
· Idaho POST – High Liability Certification.
· Experience providing training as a law enforcement subject matter expert.
· Law enforcement agency managerial experience.
· ARM - Professional insurance certification.
Job Conditions
· This position operates in a professional office environment as well as detention facilities.
· Routinely uses standard office equipment, especially computers, projectors, and mobile devices.
· Occasional standing; walking; sitting; using hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climbing stairs; talking or hearing; and driving an automobile.
· Occasional lifting or moving office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
· Frequent travel within Idaho, including overnight stays.
· The standard working schedule is Monday through Friday during regular office hours.
