Idaho Falls Community Hospital is looking for a Nutritional Tech to join our team!
JOB SUMMARY: The Nutrition Tech is knowledgeable about various patients diet orders. He/she will use diet office software to assist patients in ordering meals as they call in their room service orders. Nutrition Techs will also work throughout Idaho Falls Community Hospital (IFCH) and Mountain View Hospital (MVH) keeping coffee stations and nutrition stations stocked, as well as delivering and setting up in-house caterings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Nutrition Tech
- Receive and process patients telephoned room-service orders
- Using the Dietary Food Management (DFM) software program assist patient in ordering the patient-desired food and beverage items that are appropriate for the patients provider-ordered diet order as placed in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Understand the general requirements for each modified diet
- Understand the basic concepts and modifications made for the various types of diet orders offered
- Follow dietitians orders for special modified diets, seeking approval for any alterations or substitutions prior to serving patient altered menus
- Stock floor nutrition stations, waiting areas and doctors lounges fully each day, rotating food in a First In, First Out manner and pulling expired products daily
- Coffee stations are to be refilled and restocked promptly first thing in the morning and again throughout the day as needed according to department procedures
- Prepare and initial stocking lists and provide paperwork to the Patient Nutrition Coordinator so products can be billed to the correct departments
- Prepare and deliver caterings in adequate time for the food and supplies to be set up prior to the meeting start time
- Utilize timers to ensure caterings are set up in a timely manner
- Maintain department records
- Print and maintain a file of each meals reports from DFM and the EMR.
- Records must be maintained for a minimum of 30 days

- Participate in continued education, trainings and maintenance of Food Handlers Permits
- Maintain current Food Handlers Permit
- Complete yearly competency for using DFM program
- Complete yearly competency for modified diet requirements
- Complete the standard Idaho Falls Community Hospital (IFCH), Nutritional Services Department and position-specific Health Stream educations in a timely manner
- Participate in intra and interdepartmental meetings
- Participates in a short daily Huddle meetings under the direction of the Patient Nutrition Coordinator and/or Nutritional Services Manager to review important information of the day
- Attend the regularly scheduled Nutritional Services staff meetings
- Meetings are mandatory and will count as an absence unless you are excused for vacation or illness/leave
- If a meeting is missed, the notes from that meeting must be carefully read it is the responsibility of the individual to seek clarification on any information that is not understood

- Follow policies and procedures of IFCH and the Nutritional Services Department
- Participate in the development and attainment of departmental goals
- Contribute to the overall functioning of IFCH and the department by effectively performing the duties assigned to you as well as assisting others where and when needed
- Contribute to a positive work culture in the department as well as throughout IFCH
- Assist in Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Projects as requested, including data collection
- Participate in maintaining a safe and secure environment for self, patients, employees, customers and other hospital guests
- Use appropriate safety precautions and safety equipment when using cleaning chemicals, as outlined in the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
- Operate equipment safely
- Observe surroundings and report and/or correct any problems or potential problems regarding patients, co-workers, visitors, etc
- Report any equipment in need of repair to your supervisor in a timely manner as appropriate to the nature and severity of the accident
- Complete Occurrence Reports as per IFCH policy and submit to your supervisor to be processed in a timely manner
- Use proper body mechanics at all times, requesting assistance when needed
- Preserve the confidentiality of all Protected Health Information (PHI) observed, following the organization-wide compliance policy and applicable federal and state laws, including HIPAA
- Remain calm, reassuring and able to function and provide direction during emergency situations
- Maintain familiarity with fire, disaster plans and the hospital code system, participating in drills as appropriate

Qualifications
Education/Certification: High school graduate (or equivalent); Food Handler’s Permit (required within 90 days of employment)
Experience: No previous experience – will train the right person for skill set
Equipment/Technology: Ability to use and/or learn basic computer programs and phone system with headset
Language/Communication: Ability to read and write in English Possess high-level of oral communication and listening skills
Mathematical Skills: General mathematics
Mental Capabilities: Ability to prioritize and to plan ahead
Interpersonal: Excellent customer service skills are required. Friendly disposition and good manners are needed. Must be able to interact appropriately with patients, customers, staff and other hospital guests.
Performance: Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner following safety and sanitization policies
