I. TITLE: Communications Coordinator
II. QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
B. Strong commitment to and advocacy for public education.
C. Professional experience in communications, public relations, and/or marketing.
D. Proven ability to successfully plan, coordinate, and execute projects from concept to completion.
E. Extensive knowledge of communication tools, platforms, and best practices.
F. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, parents, patrons, and community leaders.
G. Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
H. Other qualifications as deemed appropriate and acceptable by the Board.
III. REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools.
IV. JOB GOALS:
To support and promote Idaho Falls School District 91's vision, mission, and achievements through internal and external communications.
V. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Develops, maintains, and implements a District strategic communication plan.
B. Designs and implements marketing strategies to highlight the district’s programs, achievements, and initiatives, enhancing its reputation and visibility.
C. Employs all available communication tools and resources to effectively promote the District's vision, mission, and achievements to internal and external stakeholders.
D. Develops and implements campaigns to promote and support District initiatives, programs, and special projects to internal and external stakeholders.
E. Cultivates a strong working relationship with the media, writes press releases and news advisories and coordinates media coverage of District events and activities.
F. Assists with the District's crisis and emergency communications, coordinating efforts with schools and city/county PIOs, and serving on the District's Safety Committee.
G. Collaborates with the superintendent in connecting with community organizations and businesses to create partnerships that promote District initiatives, programs, and special projects.
H. Facilitates opportunities for the Superintendent to engage with the community, including scheduling speaking engagements, coordinating participation in community events, fostering relationships with business and civic leaders, and coordinating district participation in community events.
I. Assists the superintendent with staff communications about District initiatives, programs, and special projects.
J. Creates and manages content for the District and employee newsletters and websites and collaborates with IT on website design.
K. Oversees and manages the District's Social Media, including content creation.
L. Analyzes the District's communication efforts, identifies shortcomings, and seeks out and implements new tools and strategies to address needs.
M. Facilitates responses to information requests from parents, patrons, staff, and community groups and organizations.
N. Writes newsletter articles, brochures, communications reports, and other materials that support and promote District initiatives, events, programs, and special projects.
O. Collaborates with schools and District departments to support and promote their communications efforts.
P. Provides communications counsel and support to District and school staff.
Q. Seeks out opportunities for professional growth.
R. Maintains high standards of ethical conduct and confidentiality.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Performs all other duties as assigned.
VII. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position is scheduled for eight hours per day for 241 days per year. Work schedule will include some early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be in accordance with the Index.
VIII. EVALUATION:
The Superintendent of Schools, in accordance with Board policy, will evaluate the performance of this position annually.
