Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Reliability Engineer to work in our Mechanical Design and Reliability Engineering department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off.
INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel development and fabrication through post irradiation analysis
Responsibilities Include :
You will apply engineering principles for assigned nuclear facility (structure, system and component) and experiment infrastructure through analysis, design, fabrication, installation, configuration management, and operational performance support activities. Be responsible engineer to provide oversight, guidance, and stewardship of facility and experiment infrastructure and processes at a facility which enables research, development, and demonstration of nuclear science and technologies.
- Evaluate, modify, install, and test facility systems and process support systems. Ensure continued operational readiness of assigned systems, structures and components and support.
- Initiate corrective actions or order plant shutdowns in emergency situations.
- Monitor nuclear facility operations to identify any design, construction, or operation practices that violate safety regulations and laws or could jeopardize safe operations.
- Develop and write sophisticated procedures for the modification and operation of facility, equipment, and processes.
- Examine accidents to obtain data for use in design of preventive measures.
- Direct operating or maintenance activities of nuclear facility to and conformity to safety standards.
- Determine optimum configuration for experiments, perform analysis to demonstrate compliance with safety limits.
- Develop, ensure adequacy of, and maintain configuration management and the technical baseline of multiple systems and component groups.
- Develop loop chemistry requirements. Perform core load verification.
- Support facility operations, maintenance personnel, and project personnel to ensure assigned process systems and equipment are maintained to meet operational & research needs within the system applicable baseline, and applicable standards.
- Establish experiment insertion and removal documentation. Document experiment requirements and operating information. Support design reviews for various experiments and experiment loops.
- Participate in equipment Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to support mitigation of system and equipment failure(s).
- Participate in Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design for Reliability for new and existing equipment.
