Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is hiring a Project Manager to work in our Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) Projects division. Our team works a 4x10 schedule with every Friday off. Responsibilities Include

INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for the United States Department of Energy, Office of Nuclear Energy, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel development and fabrication, and post irradiation analysis. MFC helps support the National Reactor Innovation Center, which provides resources for testing, demonstration, and performance assessment to accelerate the deployment of new, advanced nuclear technology concepts.

MFC Project Managers implement MFC's management fundamentals (leading, staffing, and assessing/improving) and establish and strengthen nuclear safety culture principles in execution of projects. Project managers manage projects of all sizes ranging from small scope to medium sized construction or fabrication contracts, to nuclear facility instrument and equipment upgrades, to large general plant and line-item capital construction projects. Projects can include traditional construction projects, scientific equipment design and fabrication or modification, nuclear fuels research, development, and deployment, operations-based scope, waste management scope, utility and infrastructure repairs or installation, advanced reactor demonstrations, recapitalization of existing infrastructure, line-item capital construction projects establishing new capabilities, and everything in between. Project Managers manage several projects from the conceptual stages through planning, engineering, procurement, execution, start-up, turnover, and operations, as applicable.

Important Functions Of The Role Are

  • Provide leadership, integration, and direction for assigned projects by communicating and integrating project activities with operations, engineering, safeguards and security, nuclear safety, construction management and other project support personnel.
  • Employ technical comprehension of engineering, procurement, industry, and nuclear processes including their interfaces and interdependencies.
  • Understand specific requirements and related nuances for execution of scope within and around nuclear and radiological settings; engage and make decisions that could affect MFC's nuclear facility operating posture.
  • Identify issues/concerns that could impede delivery of products and services and working with performing organizations to mitigate potential risks and to respond to challenges encountered during execution of work scope.
  • Use project management techniques and processes to assure technical, schedule, and budget baselines are established for assigned project; monitor progress to assure schedules are met and work is performed within budget.
  • Provide leadership for managing a high-performance project team and help mentor new project managers and team members through both formal training and on-the-job training.
  • Manage work activities in compliance with INL procedures, DOE Orders, and Federal, State, and Local regulations (where applicable), and Work for Other's (WFO)/Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADA).
  • Support successful execution of a portfolio of projects accomplished within MFC's nuclear facilities and to support critical mission outcomes.
  • Support execution of assigned portfolio of medium to high-risk projects of approximately $20M.
  • Engage within INL, with DOE, other DOE laboratories, and industry partners (as applicable) to develop teams for the successful execution of assigned projects and maintain customer relations.
  • Provide regular project reporting in multiple settings up to and including MFC and INL Management, and local and headquarters DOE personnel.

Minimum Requirements

  • Level 1 - Bachelor's Degree plus 0-2 years professional experience or Advanced Degree and 0 Years professional experience.
  • Level 2 - Bachelor’s and 2 years of experience. Master’s and 0 years of experience. PhD and 0 years experience.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
  • Must hold a current Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or be able to obtain within 12 to 24 months of hire date.

Preferred

  • Professional experience in engineering, construction, nuclear, or fabrication
  • Work with people of varied backgrounds and goals.
  • Experience of Earned Value Management System principles and their implementation.
  • Demonstrated customer/client interaction.

Job Information

  • The pay range for this position is level 1 ($65,064 - $133,416)/Level 2 ($77,628- $159,228). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
