Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a Fisheries Science Intern to join our Power Supply team for the Summer 2025 season. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon, and we’re working hard to safely provide our customers with the reliable, affordable, clean energy they depend on. While this position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, fisheries field work occurs on water bodies across Idaho Power’s service territory.
What does a Fisheries Science Intern do for us?
The Science Intern is for students focused on pursuing a career in Fishery Resources. They will operate under supervision and with significant oversight to assist Resource Professionals, Resource Scientists, or Technicians in implementing fishery resource or research programs while gaining valuable skills and experience. Fishery resource programs include collection of all life stages of white sturgeon, bull trout, and other resident fish species associated with the Snake River and its reservoirs and tributaries. The intern may interface with internal departments and external organizations, receiving regular guidance from leaders, Resource Professionals or Scientists. The intern will also assist Resource Professionals or Scientists in implementation of project tasks. They will deploy, operate, and maintain fishery related collection gear and equipment, as well as follow defined protocols. They will maintain accurate and clear documentation of all information, relevant to collection and interpretation of data. The intern will also have general application of fish biology, ecology, and fish identification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
This position walks/hikes up to 1-3 miles on ascents/descents and at times on steep, unconsolidated slopes, in all seasons/weather conditions, (with the ability to take self-paced breaks when needed). A 40 lbs. backpack may be carried. Lifting of up to 50 lbs. to waist height, 50 lbs. shoulder height/overhead, and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs. is performed occasionally. Squatting and crouching is performed occasionally. Stooping/bending, kneeling, reaching, and twisting is required frequently. Climbing is required occasionally onto/from equipment and machinery. Operation of ATVs, UTVs, and jet boats in river conditions, may be required to reach habitats. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position. This job may require the performance of additional tasks assigned by company leaders or management. Additional Information
Frequent overnight travel may be required. Some roles require field visits and outdoor work. Candidates for these roles must be able to hike and walk over uneven terrain possibly in inclement weather.

- Completion of introductory level fisheries curriculum
- Learning and working safely in a field environment with attention to detail
- Tools and software
- Work in varied and often adverse weather conditions in the outdoors
- Work comfortably in a moving boat environment and to hike considerable distance on often uneven terrain while carrying equipment in backpacks
- Work energetically and effectively within a team setting
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED
- Currently enrolled in an accredited program majoring in a resource field at a sophomore, junior, non-graduating senior status, or in an advanced resource degree program

- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
