CORRECTIONAL SPECIALIST at Idaho Division of Human Resources in Kuna, Idaho, United States Job Description CORRECTIONAL SPECIALIST Posting Begin Date : 2024 / 09 / 04 Posting End Date : 2024 / 09 / 18 Category : Law Enforcement Sub Category : Corrections Work Type : Full Time Location : Kuna, ID, United States Minimum Salary : 26.62 Maximum Salary : 26.62 Pay Rate Type : Hourly Description State of Idaho Opportunity Summary : The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction is to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities that reflect a community experience, foster connections, and restore victims of crime. Correctional Specialists (Food Service Officers) monitor, instruct, and supervise residents in food preparation, service, safety, and sanitation processes at State Correctional facilities Responsibilities : Oversee the production of quality and cost-effective meals and ensure they are prepared and served in a clean and secure environment. Train residents in food preparation, kitchen sanitation and safety, and the use of related equipment. Oversee food preparation using identified ingredients. Ensure designated policies and procedures and department menus are followed. Direct cooks and bakers regarding quantities and preparation methods. Monitor inventory and order food, utensils, cleaning supplies and related items. Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained properly. Inspect shipments for damaged products. May interview, hire, evaluate the performance and make retention recommendations of inmates working at the facility. Minimum Qualifications : Willingness to : Work any shift including day, swing and graveyard. Work weekends, holidays and overtime. Participate in training to learn and develop techniques and skills required of the correctional specialist. Conduct a thorough body search of incarcerated individuals, visitors, or other suspects for contraband and weapons. Work alone and unarmed while supervising the activities of unrestrained adult residents in a correctional facility. Perform routine searches of kitchen areas for contraband. Develop skills in the use of firearms. Transport incarcerated individuals. Participate in investigations. Write incident reports, and give testimony in court. Set aside any personal prejudices and be fair in dealing with residents. Some experience preparing and serving food in a restaurant or food service operation. Typically gained by completion of formal training directly related to food service OR at least 1 year of full-time work experience preparing and serving food in a food service environment. Some experience in the use and care of cooking utensils and equipment. Typically gained by at least 6 months of full-time work experience using and maintaining commercial equipment in an institutional or commercial food service operation. Some knowledge of supervision. Typically gain by completion of at least 8 hours of training specifically covering supervisory practices (e.g. Pre-Supervisor or equivalent) OR at least 3 months of experience as a lead-worker or supervisor that involved work assignment, direction and monitoring of staff OR at least 6 months of full-time work experience that included full supervision of resident workers as a primary responsibility of the job. Duties must include : work assignment, direction, monitoring of staff, responsibility for hiring, corrective / disciplinary action, employee feedback AND performance evaluation. Some experience using a personal computer to enter, retrieve and edit information. Successfully pass a background investigation. Pass an aptitude test.
