IDJC is looking for an energetic and self-motivated person to join the IDJC team. This is an entry level position with responsibilities that include sorting and washing laundry, operating institutional laundry equipment, simple sewing and mending and may also train and supervise juveniles in laundry functions. Laundry Operations : Sorts and weighs soiled laundry Loads and unloads machines Shakes, irons, folds, sorts, and counts clean laundry Disposes of unusable items and reports need for replacement Stores and secures supplies and equipment Cleans laundry area 2. Machine Operations : Operates washing machines, dryers, extractors, ironers, steam cabinets, folders, and sewing machines Selects correct cycles, formulas, temperatures, and drying times Prepares and loads laundry chemicals Monitors machines for problems and performs minor maintenance May operate a motor vehicle to pick up and deliver laundry-related items 3. Sewing and Mending : Inspects, mends, and marks laundry May perform simple alterations May cut and stitch material to construct aprons, curtains, tablecloths, tarps, equipment covers, and coveralls 4.
