Job Description
To plan and organize custodial services insuring building complexes are clean and orderly; perform related work.
This position is a day position that is uniquely responsible for overseeing and providing services necessary to maintain the Servel facility, a University-owned residence of the President (building #30).
Servel house coverage: The person in this position is responsible for performing routine maintenance of the home and grounds and routine custodial work to help avoid deterioration of the facility, and ensure it is maintained in a clean and orderly manner. The incumbent will also coordinate with the University Event planner and Presidential staff to support presidential-related events. This position will require a flexible schedule that will include some nights and weekends to accommodate events at the residence. This position must be comfortable around the presence of a dog at the residence.
Interim coverage: Provides interim coverage on other areas of campus when needed. This position acts as the direct contact for custodial, building services/ supplies in the absence of management at the Servel House. This position also provides support or assists with coordinating coverage when this employee is absent or if there is inadequate coverage at the Servel House.
Supervision and oversight: Establishes work priorities, organizes work schedule, and determines duties/assignments to minimize negative impacts on daily operations. Determines custodial care plans by consulting with residents of the Servel House. Ensures that staff supporting large projects/events provide quality work and productivity are at expected levels. Collaborates with supervisor on maintenance and implementing processes and protocols to further develop program areas that are aligned with the department’s safety and quality assurance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides cleaning services.
- Assists with Presidential events and related functions.
- Provides light grounds care and some maintenance care typical with a residence.
- Serves as a liaison and regularly meets with Facilities Services supervisors and management to coordinate and schedule specialized cleaning/maintenance, work requests, and event support requested by the President, President's staff, or University Event Planner.
- Provides interim coverage in other areas of campus and building services/supplies, in the absence of upper management, and also helps coordinate/provide coverage when they are absent.
- Collaborative development and maintenance of equipment specification standards and capital replacement recommendations, inventory updates, and depreciation plans, and annual budget recommendations and requests that support the programs related to the Servel house.
- Develops, maintains, and implements processes and protocols to further develop program areas that are aligned with the department’s safety and quality assurance standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of:
- Methods, materials, and equipment used in heavy-duty custodial work.
- Custodial safety practices.
- Cleaning agents and related products and their possible reactions.
Good knowledge of:
- Supervisory practices.
- Sanitation and infection control.
- Training methods used in custodial work.
Experience:
- Using small hand tools.
- Operating and maintaining industrial-type cleaning equipment.
- Preparing records and reports.
Physical ability to:
- Climb ladders, bend, stoop, lift.
- Carry items weighing up to approximately 60 pounds.
- Stand and walk continuously throughout the shift.
Specialty Items: Due to the nature of the work, these specialty items are required for construction and facility management positions on the Pocatello campus of Idaho State University.
- A valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of both a physical exam, including cardiopulmonary function testing and chest x-ray, and a respirator fit test.
