Job Description

Provides technical support for programs and organizational activities to convey information, determine compliance, and resolve difficult situations; uses expertise in the implementation and maintenance of technical program guidelines; perform related work.

Key Responsibilities

Assess call criticality, resource needs and availability, and initiate contact with response entities; re‐determine relative priority; track officers by location, status, and activity type; acquire and provide officers with data; and relay and disseminate information. Make experience‐based determinations regarding additional officer/resource needs; coordinate, track, and document high‐risk operations; execute and coordinate emergency plans; manage communications and incident coordination for multiple agencies; determine need for additional communications center staffing during emergency or crisis operations and initiate manpower requests; and initiate calls to outside agencies for information or service needs. Provide the incoming shift with a detailed status briefing; participate in After Incident Reviews; ensure new team members manage duties and operations, and providing one‐on‐one training when necessary. Maintain and manage a variety of paper and electronic call, response, incident, and report data; assess systems and make recommendations to management staff for hardware, software, or procedural modifications; document chronology of all regional events; participate in the development and maintenance of operational plans and contact resource listings; access data record sources; research, compile, enter and communicate a wide variety of information; and provide data entry services. Provide 24 hour monitoring of: multi‐line telephone, base radio, police scanner, campus duress telephone line, CCTV, and security key-less access system, blue light telephones, intrusion and fire alarms Serve as a primary point of contact for a variety of individual, campus, agency, and media requests; provide emergency, medical and public service information; and serve as intake for complaints. Respond orally and in writing to media inquiries, requests for emergency services, and coordinate requests for official reports and data. Serves as a lead dispatcher who is required to supervisor at least one student dispatcher and works to be an example to co‐workers.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

  • Monitoring record systems to identify and correct errors.
  • Interpreting, explaining, and applying laws, regulations, and complex policies for multiple or highly specialized programs.
  • Analyzing information and researching a variety of sources to identify and resolve problems or issues.
  • Dealing with individuals from varying cultural and socio-economic backgrounds in stressful situations.
  • Entering and retrieving data using a computerized record system.
  • Composing and proofreading business correspondence.

Specialty Requirements

Some positions at ISU may require one or more of the following:

Experience:

  • Storing, retrieving and compiling information in a report format using database software.
  • Reviewing/assessing health care claims.
  • Reviewing/assessing dental claims.
  • Working with sensitive or restricted data.

Some knowledge of:

  • Data management.
  • Financial record keeping.

Good knowledge of:

  • University academic and/or vocational program requirements and experience applying university policies and procedures to determine graduation requirements.

Additional Information

ISU minimum for this classification is $17.85/hour.
