Classification: Exempt
Summary: Utilize the schedule tool to plan all production within the various departments to meet both our customer’s requirements, as well as the project requirements. Leverage the department foremen’s knowledge to build a realistic production schedule. The schedule is a living tool that is updated daily.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain the active daily production schedule.
- Coordinate production workflow / schedule throughout the production cycle
- Plan and prioritize operations to ensure maximum performance and minimum delay based on customer requirements and production capacity
- Identify overtime needs for all departments, working with the department foremen based on customer requirements, manpower capacity, etc
- Help determine manpower needed to cover production demand, while working with the department supervisors
- Monitor jobs to ensure they do not exceed the quoted manhours
- Address issues when they arise aiming for minimum disruption to production. The ability to listen, understand and provide constructive input for a solution is required
- Prepare and submit status and performance reports, as requested
- Collaborate with department foremen. project managers, quality control and other staff to ensure accurate scheduling.
Required Skills & Abilities
- 3 or more years of proven experience as production planner
- Excellent knowledge of production planning.
- Working knowledge of MS Office and ERP systems. The schedule tool is MS Excel based and will be the core tool used throughout the day. Intermediate Excel experience.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication abilities. Communication (in-person, verbal, email, etc) with the department foremen once production is started is critical, as well as with the project managers throughout the project
- Steel fabrication and job shop experience is a plus.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma; Further education or certification is preferred
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift 15lbs.
- Must be able to access all areas of the facility to determine needs
