IFC’s Gender & Economic Inclusion Department is seeking an intern as part of our Global Internship Program (GIP). The Global Internship Program (GIP) offers highly motivated individuals an opportunity to be exposed to the mission and work of IFC and the broader World Bank Group and become part of the largest private sector development institution in the world. The program encourages individuals to bring new perspectives and innovative ideas to IFC’s work, while improving skills in a diverse and highly stimulating environment. Moreover, the Global Internship Program provides a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and network with international professionals dedicated to ending extreme poverty and boosting prosperity in the developing world.
Duties And Accountabilities
IFC is deeply committed to advancing gender equality and economic inclusion as presented in IFC's 2030 Roadmap for Gender and Economic Inclusion (“Roadmap”) to deliver private sector partnerships and programs to accelerate gender equality and inclusion in emerging markets. The Roadmap provides IFC’s blueprint for implementing the new WBG Gender Strategy 2024–2030 (“Gender Strategy”). As part of this effort, the Gender and Economic Inclusion Department (GEID) is reimagining our approach to gender mainstreaming and developing forward-looking action plans across regions. We are seeking a dynamic intern who will help shape this ambitious agenda, gaining unique visibility into IFC’s gender initiatives across multiple industries and regions. This high-profile role will directly inform IFC’s gender mainstreaming approach for the next few years (via a “refresh” exercise) and offers the opportunity to broadly contribute to strategy development, impact measurement, and process improvement at a global scale.

Duties & Responsibilities Of The Intern Will Include
- Contribute to a stock take of current systems, processes, and practices related to gender “flagging” (IFC’s key mainstreaming tool), identifying opportunities for efficiencies, improvements, and innovation.
- Provide research and analytical input to ensure alignment with relevant industry and international standards, including new ways to indicate and track the various aspects of gender interventions in investment projects.
- Engage in consultations across industries and regions, gathering feedback and facilitating communication to ensure inclusive participation in the refresh exercise.
- Assist in exploring and developing technology-enabled solutions that support identified efficiency improvements, aiming to streamline procedures and processes, and improve overall data accuracy.
- Support impact measurement and reporting improvements, helping identify potential enhancements in capturing and communicating gender outcomes.
- Support communication and socialization of updates to investment teams and other key internal stakeholders, helping build awareness and engagement around the evolving gender mainstreaming approach.
- Develop framework to track implementation of the Strategy and Roadmap; offering insights on progress, identifying bottlenecks and proposing mechanisms to better monitor and track progress.
- Support production of briefs, presentations, documents, and other materials for GEID Director and senior management as may be needed for Board and/or Management fora.
- Work together with GEID Strategy team on a variety of workstreams, including on rolling out GEID’s new operating model.
Selection Criteria
- Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree level program
- Preferred field of study: Economics; MPP/MPA; Masters in Business Administration (MBA)
- Minimum of 2 years of previous work experience
- Analytical Research: Proficiency in data analysis, MS Excel, and desk research
- Communication: Strong writing and speaking skills
- Project Management: Process design/improvement and stakeholder management. Experience in strategy development, portfolio or impact monitoring preferred.
- Technical Skills (Preferred): Power Platform (e.g. PowerBI; PowerApps; Power Automate)
