The Opportunity:
Our client, a leader in data center construction and development, is seeking a Sr. Manager, Regional Construction Programs to oversee multiple large-scale data center builds across a defined region. The preferred location for this role is Denver, CO.
The Sr. Manager will be instrumental in developing and establishing systems, processes, and procedures to ensure the success of the Construction Management organization. This role also involves tactical support for site construction teams, addressing specific project challenges as they arise.
The ideal candidate will bring leadership experience, technical expertise in large-scale data center campus development, and the ability to create systems that enable rapid, high-quality decision-making to keep projects on track. Additionally, this role requires building and mentoring a capable field team, enhancing their skills to meet operational goals while fostering growth in line with company standards.
This position requires exceptional project and construction management skills, strong technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with various teams and stakeholders. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment is essential.
Travel and Location:
- Location: Denver, CO (Hybrid in-office role).
- Travel: Approximately 50% onsite at project locations across the region, with occasional travel to office locations for team gatherings.
Essential Responsibilities:
Construction Programs and Project Oversight
- Oversee end-to-end construction for regional data center projects, from development to delivery, serving as the construction representative.
- Provide crucial input during site selection and development phases by assessing potential sites, evaluating new vendors, and coordinating with engineering and development teams to align with strategic growth goals.
Bid Evaluation and general Contractor Selection
- Support bid evaluation and GC selection efforts, ensuring alignment with safety requirements, scope delineation, project budgets, timelines, and quality requirements.
- Collaborate with Project Management to develop a Go/No-Go matrix to streamline vendor assessments and make data-driven decisions for project award recommendations.
Permitting and Permit Sign-Off
- Ensure the site team effectively navigates all site-specific permitting processes on an accelerated timeframe, from entitlements to full building or tenant improvement permit approval.
- Ensure timely sign-off of permits, meeting or exceeding established delivery dates.
Team Development and Decision-Making Processes
- Establish processes that empower on-site resources to make timely, high-quality decisions without impacting overall operations.
- Mentor and develop field personnel, enhancing their skills to support project goals while encouraging cross-functional awareness.
- Create frameworks to enable swift decision-making and effective risk management, ensuring project milestones are met efficiently.
Community Development
- Support the regional establishment of the company as a valued partner in the community by leading a construction management team that contributes to community development.
Stakeholder Reporting and Communications
- Prepare and deliver project updates for executive stakeholders, including weekly and monthly status reports, milestone briefs, and investor communications.
- Provide Board briefings on key project developments, schedules, forecasts, and critical contractual milestones.
- Ensure all updates are presented clearly to support executive decision-making.
Continuous Improvement and Future-Focused Strategies
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives by evaluating construction processes, exploring offsite fabrication solutions, and developing sustainable practices in construction.
- Collaborate with Asset Managers to establish standard procedures for project handoffs, such as turnover checklists and system integration for seamless transition to operational teams.
Safety and Compliance
- Support the implementation of a robust field safety program, ensuring adherence to safety standards and compliance with OSHA requirements.
- Conduct routine site inspections and work with safety officers to address any issues, maintaining a commitment to a safe working environment.
Education, Skills and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (a combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered).
- 12 years of experience managing data center construction projects or large-scale infrastructure/mission-critical projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6 or MS Project), and project management tools like Procore or similar.
- Excellent communication skills, with experience delivering executive presentations and reports.
- Proven experience managing large teams of contractors and subcontractors, with a focus on delivering projects on time and under budget.
- Demonstrated experience in team leadership, program management, and managing multi-site projects in the data center or mission-critical infrastructure sectors.
- Knowledge of construction worksite safety practices.
- Experience overseeing Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) programs.
- Working knowledge of green building practices, specifically sustainable practices in construction.
- Excellent organizational and collaboration skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and highly cross-functional environment.
Salary : $150,000 - $185,000
