- Your cumulative GPALocated in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, just northeast of Philadelphia, Fairless Energy Center, Power Plant is a state-of-the-art (2) Power Block, 1200-megawatt, 2 x 1 Combined Cycle power generation facility with (4) GE 7FA Combustion Turbines and (2) GE D11 Steam Turbines.You must have an independent source of transportation for these summer internships. There are no public transportation options for Fairless Energy.We are seeking an energetic and highly motivated college student who is interested in an intern position for the summer of 2024. The successful candidate will be exposed to all aspects of power plant operations and maintenance, including:
Engineering: Plant engineering projects and assignments using the knowledge acquired from engineering coursework, plant heat rate, reliability and performance improvement projects, equipment and system troubleshooting, Preventive and Predictive Maintenance tasks and program development, outages and equipment inspections, develop and improve Plant predictive tools using Microsoft Excel, prepare and submit required reports to plant management and outside regulatory agencies, assist with technical information library development.
Chemistry/Environmental: Chemistry – logs, rounds, chemistry sampling, and laboratory tests as required for HRSG, auxiliary boiler, water pretreatment/demineralization, chiller and cooling tower operation, evaluation of the Plant’s steam/water chemistry sample panel. Environmental – Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) calibrations.
Operations: Outside operator duties, plant equipment monitoring, water pretreatment/demineralization facility operation, daily plant rounds and weekly and monthly preventive maintenance tasks.
Maintenance: Instrumentation calibration and repair, equipment preventive maintenance tasks and minor corrective repairs to plant equipment.
EDUCATION
Required:Students should be enrolled in a Technical College/Trade School with a Power Plant Technology major.
Must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIESAll candidates should possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:1) Strong interest in working outside in a plant environment, particularly in the power generation field;2) Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Products);3) Ability to grasp new computer programs quickly.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Basic Qualifications: Students should be studying at a Technical College/Trade School, with a Power Plant Technology major.
Must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
Salary: $25.00/Hour
Work Schedule: 40 Hours/week

Working Conditions: This position involves up to 75% field work within the plant, which includes extensive walking and climbing. Must be willing to climb to heights.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and must be able to qualify to use a respirator.
Up to 25%: Office work environment
Up to 75%: Exposure to cold, dust, grease, oil, energized wires, heat, loud noise, operating machinery, and the outdoors.
5%: Confined spaces
