Duties and Responsibilities
- Month-end close responsibilities, including evaluation of monthly process and implementation of process changes as needed
- Calculate and record monthly entries for debt, derivatives, and lease accounting, in conjunction and coordination with operations and finance team; ensure all work has appropriate supporting documentation
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, conduct period over period analysis, budget comparison, and review with executive leadership team
- Prepare monthly cash account reconciliations, working closely with operations and finance/accounting team members to validate coding of cash receipts and cash payments
- Manage census reporting requirements
- Coordinate ad valorem tax processes in conjunction with the Revenue team, and work with tax provider to provide the necessary information
- Assist with financial and operational budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes and reporting to the executive leadership team
- Hold relationships within the organization that allow management of and adherence to the monthly financial close process and schedule
- Assist in the review and development of accounting policies, special projects and process improvement initiatives including communicating any accounting issues and resolutions to impacted groups
- Prepare, review, and analyze supporting schedules and disclosures for both internal and external financial reporting
- Identify, manage, and execute on opportunities to automate reporting and analysis processes
- Respond timely and accurately to inquiries from auditors
The successful candidate will have strong critical thinking skills and the ability to independently solve problems. The successful candidate will also have the skills necessary to identify and lead projects and see them through to completion. This may include initiatives for cost reductions, efficiency gains, and process improvements.
Requirements
- Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience, upstream oil and gas industry experience a plus
- Minimum of 5 years’ financial planning, accounting and reporting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; CPA is a plus
- Experience with W Energy, SAP, and Microsoft PowerBI a plus
- Experience working in a growing start up environment strongly preferred
- Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and produce quality results on time with strong attention to details
