Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: The Clinical Diabetes Specialist provides Medical Nutrition Therapy and Diabetes Self-Management Training for adult patients in the outpatient setting. Conducts group diabetes education classes. This position also is responsible for coordination of the Diabetes Education Program. The Diabetes Education Specialist and acts in a supervisory role over the diabetes educators and diet technicians. Use principles of teaching and learning theory and lifestyle counseling to help clients confidently and effectively manage their disease. Provide individualized instruction for persons of all ages, incorporating cultural preferences, health beliefs and preferred learning styles of the client. Conduct group diabetes education classes. Provide diabetes self management training, which includes providing recommendations for nutrition, medication, and lifestyle changes. Documents the assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation in the medical record following established guidelines. Functions in a supervisory role as a team leader. Serves as a preceptor for dietetic interns. Attend and participate in interdisciplinary teams and committees. Coordinates and documents quality improvement projects and planning and review of patient education programs. Collaborates with multidisciplinary staff to plan and provide care that is consistent with the American Diabetes Association Standards. Submits relevant data to the Section of Endocrinology, Loyola Outpatient Center Administration and the Department of Medicine Center for Clinical Effectiveness. Provide leadership on nutrition issues within and outside the profession through initiatives such as presentations or publications for the organization and/or community. Performs other duties as assigned Requirements: Required: Bachelors Degree Preferred: Masters Degree Specify Degree(s): Dietetics, Nutrition or Family & Consumer Science with Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) requirements completed Required: 3-5 years of previous job-related experience Preferred: Experience in program management Required: Registered Dietitian with Specialty Certification Other: Candidate has 12 months from date of hire/transfer into position to obtain Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential. Licensure as required in the state of Illinois. Insulin Pump Certification preferred. Member of Professional Organization preferred. Compensation: Pay Range: $58,614.40 - $90,833.60 Annually Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
