POSITION TYPE: Adjunct (Position is subject to evolve to full-time position with benefits)


WORK SCHEDULE: Per Semester/Course Contract


COMPENSATION: Course Credit Courses: $1,150 to $1,725 per course credit, determined by education credentials; CEUs: $40 per hour; lodging and meals for business-related travel

SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

The Workforce Development Instructor teaches courses and training workshops in the North Slope villages, in Barrow and via distance delivery throughout the NSB using a combination of direct instruction, cooperative learning and computer-based interactive instruction and promotes education and training for organizations to meet the human resource needs of North Slope employers.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches classes that support office skills, employment readiness, and Microsoft Office Software.
  • Prepares, maintains, compiles and updates instructional and training materials, general course information and outlines, curricula and other course records.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with NSB village organizations and employers.
  • Makes presentations, and attends meetings and special events, as required.                    
  • Engages with colleagues in annual program assessment.
  • Travels frequently, including travel throughout the NSB to conduct needs assessment and/or to conduct training workshops.
  • Actively participates in College and community service, including serving on committees and participating in College activities
  • Complies with College policies, procedures, and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Professional teaching and/or training experience in a corporate or post-secondary environment.
  • PC proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Professional oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation communication skills.   
  • Demonstrated experience working independently in a rural, isolated environment.   
  • Ability to travel periodically.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
  • Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
  • Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
  • Ability to support Ilisagvik College’s mission.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE [Required]:

  • Associates degree or equivalent in Business, Education, Management or other relevant field.


 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business, Education, Management or other relevant field.
  • Valid driver’s license.
