Job Summary :
Ilitch Sports Entertainment is looking for the Director of Video Content Production to join our in-house production team. The Director of Video Content Production is responsible for the creation, implementation, management, and supervision of video content used in-arena / ballpark, broadcast, digital, Corporate Partnership, and all other departments at the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers. This position manages a full-time team of shooters and editors and works with the VP of Creative Services to implement concepts needed to meet company goals. Functions as the primary producer for video content, managing all aspects of productions and their crews. This role will also help with project management and supervision, putting together crews, gear rental, and oversight of projects. The position is based in Detroit, MI.
Key Responsibilities :
- Manage internal video production team and supervise freelance and contractors supporting creative concepts from clients and the VP of Creative Services.
- Coordinate all pre-production needs, including putting together crew, permits, lighting, and talent. Lead and direct on-location production, including equipment, talent, and crew.
- Act as a producer for post-production work and the first line of approvals for video content.
- Supervise in-house and freelance production crew from creative concepting to final delivery to maintain brand, creative, and quality consistency across platforms.
- Lead the process of media storage and shooting standards with a strong emphasis on understanding bit-rates, codecs, and other file requirements related to high-end video production.
- Approve and keep track of direct reports’ hours and allocate time accordingly per project and task.
- Oversee shoots and editing schedules, creative concepting, production workflows, and ensure productions stay within the predetermined budget.
- Work with clients, crews, and other departments to determine needs and then use creative vision to determine production.
- Regularly report to the VP of Creative Services about gear acquisitions and needed innovation improvements.
- Manage direction and production of features, green screen, and other content by acting as the organization’s primary producer on set and in post-production.
- Oversee the creation of unique, visual content for the in-arena / ballpark show, broadcast, and marketing groups.
- Continuously explore new technologies and design trends and look for ways to integrate these into productions.
- Work with clients and the Creative Director on allocating budgets for crewing and equipment.
- Ensure clients’ creative vision comes to life in production through close communication and coordination with their needs.
- Work closely with the production manager to ensure production details and project hours are correctly logged into the project managing platform.
- Negotiate rates with freelancers to best meet clients’ budgetary needs.
- Schedule crews, actors, voice talent, and others needed during shoots. Facilitate permits for location shoots.
- Manage and oversee the video server and the logging of highlights, melts, and other files for digital archiving.
- Collect content and media, grow brand, edit content from start to finish.
- Determine how pieces will be put together to best tell the story or meet the production goals.
- Tell compelling and powerful stories that engage every audience.
- Build production with little to no supervision from the ground up.
- Continuously look for ways to edit productions to make them unique and interesting.
- Have a vision of how graphics, 3D elements, and color correction will work into the final production.
- Choose music and other elements that affect the overall feel of production.
- Occasionally do some motion graphics and animation to complete spots.
- Develop shot sheets, storyboards, lighting styles, direct camera, cinematic style film composition, set up shoots, green screen, lead videographer, gear coordination.
- Oversee shot composition, lighting, and overall creative vision of the production.
- Strategize workflows with shooters during production that feed directly into the post-production process.
- Choose lighting equipment and cameras that will most accurately capture the overall creative vision, mood, and needs of the production.
- Supervise crew on location shoots.
- Other duties as assigned.
