Description

The Landscape Manager at Illini Country Club provides a service which is integral to the goals of the Golf Course Maintenance Department. Their contribution often influences the first impressions of club members and guests. Working in conjunction with the Director of Agronomy, the Landscape Manager oversees and performs the maintenance and upkeep of all landscaped areas at Illini Country Club, creating a pleasing and sustainable visual experience on the golf course and clubhouse grounds. 

Requirements

Expected Contributions:

  • Coordinate with the Director of Agronomy, Golf Course Superintendent, and Assistant Superintendent on any issues related to landscape maintenance.
  • Direct and participate in the construction and maintenance of the landscape.
  • Work outside, potentially for long periods of time and in all kinds of weather, performing tasks that require physical strength and endurance.
  • Work variable hours which may include overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work independently and be a self-starting problem solver.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform related duties of landscape maintenance including but not limited to: growing and maintaining plants; managing injured or diseased trees; designing and interpreting plans; creating and modifying landscapes; directing the installation and maintenance of hardscapes and water features; trash/debris removal; snow/ice removal; providing safety and satisfaction to members and their guests.
  • Meet and consult with members, Director of Agronomy, General Manager, Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Foreman, Golf Pro, Engineer, Managers (clubhouse, halfway house, grill, tennis courts and pool), Chef, and Mechanic. These meetings are vital to address questions and concerns, as well as to plan and schedule work around tee times, social activities, and golf course events.

Candidate Profile:


Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • 2-year or 4-year degree or certificate in horticulture or related study preferred
  • 2 years’ experience in landscaping position preferred
  • Management experience in landscaping preferred
  • Valid driver's license
  • Pesticide applicator or operator license (within 60 days of employment)

Horticulture Knowledge and Skills

  • Plant identification, selection, and landscape design principles
  • Planting, transplanting, and propagation practices
  • Pruning principles and practices
  • Irrigation practices
  • Cultivation practices
  • Use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in landscape maintenance work
  • Knowledge of safe and application of fertilizer and pesticides

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud. The employee may be exposed to poison ivy, oak, and sumac on an occasional basis, and must be able to work closely with these plants and possibly other toxic plant materials, as well as bees, wasps, and yellow jackets.
