What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT Tutor - TRIO Talent Search position at Illinois Central College?
The Academic Tutor is primarily responsible for providing ACT Prep and academic instruction in specific core curricula to middle school and high school students participating in the TRIO Educational Talent Search Program.
This is a grant funded position by the TRIO Talent Search DOE grant with an expected end date of August 31st, 2026. The hours for this position will be evenings and/or weekends depending on the assigned student's schedule. The location can vary between different schools and libraries in the community.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.- Provide academic tutoring in person and face-to-face in various subjects including Math, English, Science, Social Studies.
- Conduct ACT prep sessions for program participants during the summer and school year.
- Aid in procuring teaching material and supplies.
- Create and maintain a safe and comfortable environment conducive to learning and improving students' academic standing.
- Collaborate with ETS Director and Success Coaches to schedule and track tutoring assignments and sessions.
- Develop and maintain a plan for students' continuous academic progress.
- Generate and submit weekly reports to the ETS Director.
- Perform related duties as required
- Bachelor's degree.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Proficient in math, science, english, foreign language, social sciences, and/or ACT Prep.
- Evidence of academic success in the tutoring subject matter.
- Experience in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of study skills to help students become successful learners.
- Ability to provide competent tutoring to assist students in reaching their academic goals.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.
- Teaching certification.
- 2 years teaching or tutoring experience.
- Experience with volunteerism and/or advocacy for academically disadvantaged students.
- Knowledge of community resources and services.
