What are the responsibilities and job description for the Title IX Specialist position at Illinois Institute of Technology?
The Title IX Specialist is responsible for helping to support the university’s compliance with the requirements set forth by the Title IX Educational Amendments Act, the Clery Act, the Violence Against Women Act ( VAWA ), and the Illinois Preventing Sexual Violence in Higher Education Act. The Title IX Specialist will report to the Title IX Coordinator and carry out the following responsibilities: remain informed of all changes/updated in guidance/law at the federal and state levels to implement an timely Title IX program to the campus community; manage Title IX investigations; manage informal resolution processes; manage intake reports and provide supportive measures; maintain impeccable internal records of reports received, investigations conducted, and informal resolutions undertaken in both Maxient and Microsoft 360 OneDrive. The Title IX Specialist will also manage the annual online faculty and staff sexual harassment prevention training; conduct educational training workshops with students and employees across the university; assist with the editing of the handbooks and marketing materials; collaborate annually with stakeholders across the campus to develop and implement Title IX marketing campaigns; assist with the completion of the annual Clery, ISPHVE , and state mandated sexual misconduct student survey reports. Manage all activities/reports in the Maxient and Microsoft 365.

This position requires a person with strong communication skills to communicate clearly verbally and in writing, using effective interpersonal skills to understand complicated Title IX policies and regulations. The person will work directly with the Title IX Coordinator to interpret policy and draft internal and external documents and marketing material. This person will possess active listening skills and accurate note-taking ability as well as strong editing skills for use when editing office resources documents, policy manuals, marketing material, and letter-writing campaigns to make the language clear, accurate, and student-friendly whenever possible.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
This position requires effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to demonstrate empathy and use a trauma-informed approach when addressing sexual misconduct. It also requires someone who possesses the ability to engage and build trust with students, campus partners, and community organizations on an ongoing basis, making sure to use language that encourages collaboration.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Some experience working in higher education or a field related to the position (sexual assault, domestic violence, law, etc.). Some familiarity with Title IX law and the Illinois Preventing Sexual Violence in Higher Education Act. Must have the ability to leverage technical resources and build own technical abilities in the execution of work. Preferably from the greater Chicago area, with a working knowledge of local resources for the campus community to use.
Knowledge & Skills
Familiarity with Title IX regulations, the State of Illinois sexual harassment law. Some related experience with investigations and resolution processes desired.
Experience using Maxient, Banner, and Microsoft Office 360.
