Function / Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to assume comprehensive responsibility for the planning, coordinating, organization, direction and management of multi-discipline projects, regulatory compliance and training. Assume the responsibility for implementation of governmental regulations and board policy with respect to environmental health and safety compliance. Function with minimal supervision and administrative independence. Travel within the district and surrounding communities is a requirement.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain effective channels of communication between outside groups, governmental agencies, district administrators, and staff.
  • Provide timely responses to all correspondences, inquiries and requests from stakeholders both in and outside of the organization.
  • Coordinate the activities of assigned functions with other organizational units as necessary.
  • Coordinate and monitor implementation of all regulatory compliance needs and programs. Serve as district representative in communication with regulatory agencies.
  • Review newly promulgated regulations to assure the district's compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Respond to building occupant health and safety concerns.
  • Complete air monitoring and environmental testing and prepare related reports and studies as required or assigned.
  • Conduct routine environmental inspections of district facilities and solicit building team input as needed to monitor regulatory compliance.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise multi-discipline or multi-vendor special projects, providing inspections, project oversight, quality assurance, project close-out, cost monitoring and cost control.
  • Manage asbestos programs and act as the district's designated person.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain compliance regarding hazardous materials and wastes.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain regulatory compliance and hazard management programs, including, respiratory protection, hazardous energy lockout, confined space entry, laboratory safety, radon, indoor air quality, and pesticide application.
  • Develop, manage and continuously update right-to-know programs for all affected employees, including training, chemical inventories and procurement of safety data sheets (SDS).
  • Implement and maintain regulatory compliance for lead in paint and drinking water.
  • Assist in the procurement of services / products through the bid process and Board approval.
  • Initiate and coordinate in-service and staff development programs for the purpose of improving compliance and safety of all Plant Operations personnel.
  • Assist in development and monitoring of assigned budget and ensure that funds are properly allocated and invoices are processed in a timely manner.
  • Assist the director in developing departmental policies and procedures.
  • Respond to 24-hour / day emergency calls and implement appropriate response actions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • College degree in related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training,
  • and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

  • Valid Illinois driver's license.
  • Five years of related experience preferred.
  • Board certification in comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene preferred.
  • Bilingual - Spanish / English (written / verbal) preferred.
  • Experience / Knowledge

  • Evidence of success in a leadership role.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Illinois Department of Public Health licensing in Asbestos and Lead preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in computer business applications.
  • Ability to plan and schedule activities on multiple sites.
  • Working knowledge of school operations as related to health and life safety.
  • Knowledge of planning, scheduling, budgeting, bidding and contracts.
  • Physical Demands

  • Ability to work on a computer over a major portion of the day.
  • May be required to lift, carry, and transport materials up to 30 lbs. with proper technique.
  • Terms of Employment

  • This is a 12 -month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
  • The salary range for this position is ($80,172.00 - $120,257.00) It is our typical practice to hire in between the minimum and midpoint ($100,214.00)
