Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain database systems for optimal performance and reliability
- Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required
- Ensure database security (working closely with the data security team), backup, and recovery plans are in place and effective
- Collaborate with IT teams to integrate databases with other software applications. Provide technical expertise and support in database design, development, and management
- Analyze and report on database performance and suggest improvements
- Completes necessary education, training, and certifications to stay abreast of latest technologies effecting Illinois Secretary of State information security
- Travels as necessary for education and meetings
- Performs other duties as required or assigned
- Proficient in database administration, management, or a related field
- Working scholarship of database languages like SQL, and experience with database management software.
- Functioning knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.
- Know-how with cloud-based database services.
- Experience with data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL
- Requires experience in a government or public sector IT environment
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Advanced database certifications (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with various IT teams
- Willingness to travel and possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license as required by individual positions within the class
- Ability to lift/carry, push/pull 0 – 50 lbs
- Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college, with coursework in the computer science field
- Two and a-half (2.5) years of technical systems and programming experience as would be gained as an Information Systems Technician or any equivalent combination of education and experience
