Position Overview
Under immediate supervision, for the Division of the Academy and Training, performs non-skilled general cleaning and ground maintenance of the Illinois State Police Academy classrooms, housing areas, offices, common areas and the buildings of the Pawnee Training Facility. Reports any observed emergency situations, e.g., fire alarms, severe weather warnings, emergency phone calls, and alerts students and residents accordingly. Setting up, lifting, moving, and/or taking down tables and chairs in classrooms, auditoriums, gymnasiums and meeting rooms for programs and moving beds in housing areas. Seeding, mowing, planting, shrub trimming, raking, and snow and ice removal.

Essential Functions
- Cleans the Illinois State Police Academy and the Pawnee Training Facility.
- Applies and/or mixes chemicals to mop, strip, seal, and wax floors.
- Performs manual building and grounds functions.
- Take physical inventory of janitorial supplies, linen, furnishings, equipment, and other property items.
- Adjusts thermostats for energy control programs; completes “work orders” on building and furniture damage; reports and changes burned out light bulbs; inspects locks to ensure they are properly secured.
- Provides guidance and direction regarding the Academy facilities to new employees and in-house students.
- Sets up furniture, office equipment, and supplies in rooms.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required as enumerated in the duties above.
- Requires knowledge, skills, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
- Prefers two (2) years' experience of grounds maintenance equipment (e.g., tractor lawn mower, string trimmer, shovel).
- Prefers three (3) years' experience of grounds/building maintenance and building cleaning methods.
- Prefers three (3) years' experience of the use and care of janitorial cleaning equipment (e.g., buffing machine, mop, broom).
- Pass the Illinois State Police background investigation.
- Pass the Illinois State Police drug screening.
- Requires the ability to travel.
- Requires a valid driver's license.
- Requires ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull items weighing 50 pounds, bend, and crawl.
