What are the responsibilities and job description for the Benefits Officer position at Illinois Student Assistance Commission?
The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) has an immediate opening for a Benefits Specialist. The person selected for this role will be responsible for benefits administration and assisting in all other areas of human resources and development.
- Complete new hire and benefits choice insurance enrollments, providing employees with information on health, dental, vision, deferred compensation, MCAP/DCAP, life insurance, and My Benefits Plus.
- Process, approve, and track all FMLA leaves.
- Serve as the point of contact for all other leaves including Personal, Parental and Military Leave.
- Review reasonable accommodation requests as the Disability Access/ADA Coordinator.
- Review weekly, monthly, and annual Group Insurance System reports and process necessary changes.
- Counsel employees on educational benefits, approve and track all educational benefits usage.
- Assist employees with Deferred Compensation questions, process Deferred Compensation forms, and track year-end max contributions.
- Assist employees in understanding insurance and other changes during retirement.
- Serve as the point-of-contact for worker’s compensation.
- Distribute service awards.
- Track annual state training and other mandatory forms for completion to ensure compliance.
- Serve as the budget liaison for HRD.
- Run ad hoc reports.
- Participate in data conversion to SAP.
- File biweekly transaction forms.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
- Any one or combination totaling eighteen (18) months from the categories below:
- college course work in human resource management, business administration, social sciences, or a closely related field:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor’s degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
- work experience performing clerical or paraprofessional duties related to benefits and/or insurance benefits in benefits, insurance, retirement, healthcare, or human resources.
- Eighteen (18) months of work experience comparable to that performed at the Benefits Representative level of this series.

Salary Range: $60,000-65,004
Hybrid Schedule: This position requires working 3 days in our Deerfield office. The person selected may work from home 2 days per week if desired.
