Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Insurance is seeking to hire an Account Technician I in the Insurance Tax Administration Unit of the Finance Section. This position performs technical accounting work related to the maintenance, preparation, distribution, and analysis of the billing and receivable system; verifies a variety of complex financial documents and account maintenance within the cash receipts system; provides fiscal accounts receivable assistance as needed to other accounts receivable staff. Essential Functions
- Performs the final review and reconciliation between complex documents including billings, aging reports, billing backup detail, pass through vendor invoices, journal postings and control documents for the maintenance of agency fiscal account books and records.
- Reviews credit memos for accuracy and completeness and makes a determination to approve and/or disapprove credit memos.
- Performs cash application procedures.
- Responds to agency billing inquiries or problems.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and completion of an approved training course or three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
- Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience and intermediate proficiency with applications including: spreadsheets, word processing, email and pdf document editors.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working with accounting techniques.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working with state or non-state accounting procedures.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of accounts receivable experience.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience with office methods and procedures.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working with the principles and functions of standard office accounting machines and equipment.
- Prefers demonstrated ability to apply established accounting techniques.
